A few people I was chatting to on the maternity ward smoked (cigarettes) and drank alcohol throughout their pregnancy. And would leave their babies alone on the ward to go and smoke. It was a 4 bedded bay and half the people on the ward did this.
I realise it is an addiction but is this normal and were others doing this??
Just to confirm this is knowing you’re pregnant and doing it.
Thank you
No judgement intended just confused at how common it seems

I used to smoke and I'd drink on occasion but not often
I knew I was getting my implant removed in February so I quit in January.
Vaped 0% nicotine to help me quit but as soon as I was ovulating, I stopped for 2 weeks until I took a test and if it was negative I would start again until my next ovulation
I had 2x miscarriages, so I would start vaping again but NEVER when I was pregnant
It is 100% an addiction, but for me personally, I would feel awful if my child developed a health condition or I had a loss because I couldn't give up a bad habit for 9 months.
Now have a beautiful healthy girl and still dont smoke 🥰

Aww bless, yes that is hard. At least I had a few months to kick the habit 😂
All part of the journey, all good now with my special rainbow baby 🥰

This is incredibly sad. I hope those women get help.

This is heartbreaking for those babies.

I’ve smoked for 15 years (started when I was 13) and have quit and started again multiple times but once I found out I was pregnant (I found out early about 2 weeks) I’ve been cold turkey since… it’s so hard.. and even now I want one but personally I’d never touch it when pregnant and I’m not much of a drinker anyways so alcohol free cider is fine for me 🤣 I do know some people that smoked throughout and my mum said they used to be advised to smoke when she was pregnant xxx

I never smoked and rarely drink so it was ok for me to not drink at all.

I gave up smoking and the occasional drink when we had the chat that we wanted to start trying soon

I was a daily smoker of weed for years but the second i saw a plus sign i quit. I was very fortunate to have an easy time quitting but i understand plenty about the power of addiction. I wish more people felt safe talking to their doctors about quitting. Niccotine patches and tapering off drinking under medical supervision is MUCH safer then sneaking it because you just cant quit on your own

If your scum then yeah
