My partner leaves for work6.30 and doesn’t get home most days 6.30. I do all house work, empty dishwasher, laundry, dinners and tidy up, school pick ups, morning and night routines with 2 children. He does the shop and empties the bin normally after I’ve told him they need doing. By the time he gets in it’s all done. I’ve told him it gets to much but he says well I’m on maternity leave. I’m looking after a baby, I get up in night etc when needed. Often once kids are asleep I’m running around sorting all last bits till 9. I feel lonely and fed up yes I’ve spoken about it to him. But his reaction is I’m at home and he does long days. Am I being unfair

You ar not being unfair. Some men seem to think that being on mat leave is a holiday but looking after babies/kids is a full time job too. My partner does 6am til 5pm taking into account driving to and from work that when he leaves and gets back. We have 22 kids. He does the cooking, washing up and emptying the bins. He then plays with the toddler. I just dont have time. He is fine with that. We're both exhausted and sometimes we don't want to. I often leave the house a mess because I just cant be bothered. I get up in the night but he does also with toddler. Once the kids are in bed and asleep from around 8pm I sit and do nothing unless it really needs to be done.

I meant 2 😂 god can't imagine 22. 😂😂😂

Taking care of a baby is just as hard as going to work, just because his job is out of the house doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t pull his weight when he’s home. My partner still does his share of housework once he comes home and in the weekends, plus 50% of the childcare (if not more since I already spend all day with the baby). Get him to take a day of leave to be in your shoes for one day and see how much he manages to get done…

You are on maternity leave but that doesn't mean you do it all. It's his family too.
I've just had my 3rd baby who's 10 weeks old. My husband's out similar times to yours.
He helps whenever is needed. He can't do school runs etc but he gets up once a night with the baby and does whatever housework is needed if he sees it

That is a long day, I'll give him that. But being a parent at home is also a long day in a different way! If I were you I would stop prioritising cleaning and take a little bit of that time to pour into your own cup. You could take a bath, watch some TV, read a book, do some exercise, eat some chocolate- whatever it is that helps you decompress. Don't run around when the kids are asleep, let the standard slide- then if he has anything to say you can explain that you have seen he takes chill out time in the evenings and it's only fair you have some chill time too that isn't spent on housework. You're home for the children, anything else you get done is a bonus. What does he do on his days off?

Sounds to me like he is working a 12 hour day you’re working a 24 hour day. The least he could do is help out in the evenings so you get to sit down at like 8pm instead of 9! Or even get up an hour early so you get more rest before he starts his day. I’ve done both and 12 hour days at work are a billion times easier than solo mat leave
