Grunting baby

Ladies, any help and advice please. Long one so bear with me.

My 2.5 week old has gone from an extremely chilled baby who would happily be put down during the day and sleep in his next to me, to a baby I now can’t put down due to grunting in pain. It’s meant my partner is in the spare room as I end up having to co-sleep to get any sleep at all (which still isn’t a lot). When I’ve also got a 2.5 year old and a dog, with my partner back at work soon it’s going to make life very difficult not being able to put him down at all. My first was a Velcro baby with reflux and colic so I know from experience with him it’s not colic as it’s all day, doesn’t get worse on an evening or after a feed, and it’s not reflux as he’s never sick.

He’s now completely bottle fed on cow and gate formula. He’s not crying. He’s straining and kicking his legs out. Genuinely sounds like he’s trying to give birth himself, or like a sheep making a weird noise. I’ve been told it’s ‘normal’ for his age due to immature gut system but this doesn’t seem normal and it’s horrible seeing him in what appears to be pain.

What we’ve done or have tried
- he’s been proscribed Gaviscon for silent reflux
- next to me is tilted so head is higher
- pace feeding.
- we use Mam bottles
- burp every ounce
- keep him up right and continue to burp over shoulder for 20 mins after a feed
- he has warm baths with a flannel over his tummy
- tummy massages, bicycle legs, other exercises
- we’ve tried infacol, didn’t work at all
- we’ve tried Colief, again didn’t work
- we’ve got mommy’s bliss gripe water, mixed reviews. Works straight after using it but then not again for a while.
- ordered some probiotic drops to come tomorrow.

I am reluctant to change his milk so early on unless we’re certain it would work as we swapped formulas around lots for my first and caused more issues. I don’t think it’s CMPA as he’s putting weight on well, no issues with his nappies, skin and not rejecting feeds.

We had similar issues with our first born. The only other things we did, which you havent listed is we mixed his formula with a wisk instead of shaking it, to reduce air bubbles. We also raised his next to me cot at the top end so he wasn't lay completely flat. I also have heard of people feeding so they are leaning to their left side instead of their right can help. I know cow and gate do anti reflux milk and comfort milk but i havent tried them myself. It might be worth a try, if you havent already. You can have reflux without actually being sick and it can cause a lot of pain, so best to treat as though they have reflux, just in case. X

Sounds exactly like my first. Silent reflux. Gaviscon didn’t work, only omeprazole, then we had a normal happy baby again.
I’m so sorry, it’s completely shit.

Could he be constipated? My little boy started on gaviscon for reflux and within a week of using it became very unsettled and screaming hadn't pooed for a while and when he finally did it was really hard and blood in it due to him straining so much, got given some lactulose for him. He's now on omeprazole instead and anti reflux milk and seems more settled x

My first born had colic 24/7 for 4 months. So it can be a severe case of colic? Only thing that helps is contact which you're doing and a dummy.
My second born is showing signs of colic and has become a Velcro baby too. I might consider a wrap or sling to do things for a toddler too.

I’ve had a really positive experience at the drs with my little one. She listened to me, didn’t make me feel like I was making anything up and we came up with a plan. She explained omeprazole is unlicensed until they are 1 month which basically means they shouldn’t proscribe it until after then. They can do but need to try other things first and needs to be in extreme cases. She asked if I was happy to change milk over and we have done to cmpa milk and then booked another appointment next week to see if any positive changes. Not 24 hours in yet and not had any changes really. He’s had 4 bottles of the other milk and still the same. So we will just see. X

Any mamas in this situation? Doc says she needs formula

Breastfed since one month old. Born (4lbs 11oz) At her two month check with my midwives they said she was doing really well with weight gain (6lbs 5oz). Now at 3 months we went to our family doctor and she is at 7lbs 6.4oz.

My doctor is concerned about weight gain but also said she’s doing great with holding her head, being attentive, etc. Dr. Said I should give formula

But what I don’t understand is my daughter always seems satisfied with feeding and doesn’t cry or fuss after. Anyone have a similar situation?

Sleep Training

Hi! I was j wondering when everyone is starting sleep training and how they are doing it? My 3mo wakes up once of a night at around 3/4am after being asleep since 10pm, and has been doing so for about a month now. I’m not sure wether that means she is ready or not? She can sometimes settle herself after being woken up from a nap after about 2-3 mins (I never leave her longer as I get scared/worried about if she starts crying) and she has a pretty decent routine during the day. Should I start sleep training? What methods are good and reliable ( I am NOT considering the cry-it out method so please do not suggest it) (Pic so I don’t get lost)

When do your children go to bed?

I just saw a post about people being lucky their kids go to bed at 7pm, the comments were filled with people saying if they sent their kids to bed at 7…they’d be up at 3:30am / 4am / 5am…why is that??

My son goes to bed at 7pm and wakes up around 8/8:30am. I do consider myself really blessed with his sleep schedule however he doesn’t nap and he’s nearly 2 🤣 he dropped his final nap when he was around 14/15 months old 💔 if it’s later please let me know! Also what time they wake up - I’m curious 👀

I think my marriage is past the point of saviour.

Hey everyone.

Sorry for the long read but please bare with me.

My husband and I have been together 7.5 years and married for 4 years. We have a nearly 5 year old little boy together.

Everything at the beginning of our relationship was everything I had ever wanted in a relationship. My husband was kind, caring, helpful, ambitious, strong etc. We both spoke about the want for our own family and how we would want to be as parents. Moving forward we got pregnant (planned), pregnancy wasn't easy and I was in and out of hospital a lot during 3rd trimester. My husband was perfect and excited etc throughout pregnancy until the 3rd trimester hit and then went of the rails a bit, drinking etc and not really there when needed.

I had experience with children and helped raised my neices, my husband had no experience. Neither of us had a good upbringing.

Roll on birth and my husband had a face like a slapped bum, our little boy was born absolutely perfect. I was really poorly and lost quite a lot of blood and was being sick. I had the shakes so bad I was struggling to hold my son. My husband left me before I was even moved to the ward whilst being unwell. He left me to go meet his dad at the pub to wet the babies head.

After we were discharged home my husband just took a back seat with everything. I done everything for our son all whilst recovering from a cseaction. My son was a poorly baby and I was also back and forth to Dr's and hospital with him on my own. My husband got a job where it was very long hours and having to stay away a few times a week for work. I was keeping the house, doing everything for our son and keeping everything together with no village. Roll on my son's like 3 weeks old and my husband says he feels nothing for our son. Shortly after this he has a massive breakdown. I supported him through all of this, took him to appointments whilst doing everything for my son who was still poorly.

For 1.5 years I done everything for my son and for everyone else and kept everything together.

Roll on to nearly 4 years later (sons nearly 5) and turns out my son is neurodivergent, has a eating disorder, now has a PEG fitted, has ketotic hyperglycemia, asthma and allergies. I'm dealing with this day in day out all whilst dealing with my own chronic health conditions.

My husband tries but he just shouts at our son a lot and gets frustrated. I feel like we just butt heads and I end up having to defend our child. He still trys to be sexual and kiss etc but I have no desire at all and even him just touching me just makes me want to pull away.

I feel like he hurt me more than anyone or anything possible. He ruined what was meant to the best time of our lives and ruined my whole experience entering motherhood and I just can't get past that. I've spoken to him and told him all this. He keeps saying he's sorry and he will change but it's just empty promises. He's not the man I feel in love with and he's not the father he was meant to be or that I want for our child.

Any advice please?

How are we weaning from bottles to sippy cups??

My daughter will be 1.5 in December and her pediatrician recommended sippy cups instead of bottles, the only issue is I don’t think my daughter is getting the concept. She refuses to hold it on her own and just won’t drink from it even when I’m holding it. What tips and tricks worked for you?
