Is socializing with other kids needed for a 2 year old?

My 2 year old is with me all day. I am a SAHM with no car so cannot take her to library or any classes. We have a daycare at a walkable distance. Do kids at this age need to go to daycare? Is socializing with other kids needed at this age?

Personally, I don't think it's necessary though I have the ability to get my kid around other kids. You don't want to isolate them. Maybe reach out to local moms and look for people who could come to your house to hang out.

I don’t think so. But it helps with familiarity. They learn to see may different types of people and meet children that might act different etc but even when you speak to nursery staff. They always say at that age children all still play independently, they can’t quite grasp friendship and playing together yet

Avatar

No, I’ve read that until around age 3.5 they pretty much just need familial connections (like with momma)

Are there any libraries or malls by bus/train? If you are close to public transport you can still take them classes. I drive but sometimes I take the bus and train on purpose coz it’s easier and/or it’s a whole journey he loves on the train he loves looking out the window while I’m holding him. And my zoo has a train stop right there for the zoo so to go there it’s easier by train for me.

Getting them used to the noise and reactions of other children is a benefit..I also love getting out of the house, I don't drive either, so we walk, bus, train to get places. It makes it an adventure rather than just going somewhere. My LO loves going on a bus 🤣

Socialising can happen on many ways.

Do you have parks or shops close by?

You could also ask on social media if anyone around would be interested in meeting for coffee and playdates. That is a good chance to practice taking turns, gentle hands and be polite.

But children don't have the capacity to develop these skills until they are 3 years old, so before then, it is a bit forced.

If not, you could start taking her to daycare for half day a few days a week.

Is her school close by?

If I didn’t have baby groups to take my kid too I would put them in day care cus I spent a lot of time doing baby groups and started nursery at 3

Not really. Little bits here and there in parks and libraries and playgroups is good but not the be all end all

I have a social toddler and a baby only loves grandma, imo a lot of homeschooled kids have the best behavior and are really confident. I think it only matters what you teach them, and that the people you let in your life are all good people because they will pick up any bad behavior... or good, my toddler 3y wanted to use the potty and walked after seeing other toddlers immediately before that she barely tried lol (she's very competitive) my two year old mimicks 3 year old, just make sure it's good company

Avatar

No it's not needed. If there are some play dates that can come to you it would be helpful. But familial connections are all that is needed till your child is older.

Playdates with others kids and playgroups are good .

Its beneficial in terms of getting them accustomed to noises, other people. Some YMCA locations have an early learning program for 2 year old children (with mandatory parent/guardian attendance) my little one and I loved it.

Avatar

No. They already socialize with their family. Depending on the child bit they start playing and be interested in other kids around 2 or 3 years old.

Im not sure socializing is the word before 3. But i think helping them get use to being around other people is what happens.

16 month old and 12 weeks pregnant

I am 4’10 and as the title states 12 weeks pregnant. My son will be 23 months old when his sibling is born. I recently moved from FL to MI so my son could grow up around in laws, but that doesn’t mean I have my village. ❤️‍🩹 We were planning to buy a larger home next year but the surprise baby (I was told I’d not be able to conceive again after a botched c-section) we likely won’t be moving until the following year into a bigger home. Does anyone have advice or has been through having 2 under 2 and still wanting to get back into college online as well as managing a small home with very limited yard space? We had planned so well and ended up being hit 70mph head on in the middle of a custody case for my nephew and my identity being stolen in the six figures. We fell pretty hard and picking up the pieces. It feels like Groundhog Day everyday, especially not knowing people or having my own village. My husbands’ family has a strong mentality of only blood is family so I am just an outsider living 1000 miles away from anyone I know, home alone 6x a week and feeling defeated and scared about baby on the way. I felt like I was just getting back to feeling like me before pregnancy began. Did anyone else lose their sense of self, identity, other than being a mom, once becoming a mother?

Help

My son is 18 months and he does not eat pieces of anything he still has pures and little pasta and some lumpy pieces but he will not eat a big piece/chunk unless it’s something that I am having. If I try to give him pieces of fruit/vegetables he will end up just playing with it rather than eating it. I don’t know what to do.

Why am I still in love with him and want to try again?

I, 29F have been with my kids father(40M) on and off for over 9 years. We're going to call him D. D has always been a good man throughout our relationship and an amazing father to our two children which are both boys aged between 10 and 8. We always went out or spent amazing time together as a couple and as a family up until recently. He has become super mean always yelling or copping an attitude when it's totally unnecessary. He picks fights over stupid stuff and would yell at the children for things that they didn't need to be yelled at for. Well, skipping to this year. He yelled at me so much to where I have a fear of him living with me. He's thrown things around the house breaking stuff and destroying anything within arms reach. All of it is because he felt he was losing control. He said it was my attitude telling him what to do or me complaining about how much I do and none of what he did. I work full time as what the kids call a midnight ballerina. I also do all the grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, getting the kids to and from school, as well as care for his needs and paying all the bills. He hasn't been working at all. Just been hanging out with his friends claiming he was working. I got tired of him not doing anything. I really mean nothing. I was taking Uber to and from work while D had a vehicle. I ended up kicking him out. He's been out of the house for a little over a month now. He told me he never agreed to leave before leaving. What I'm getting at here is, why do I miss him so much when he called me names when I tried to get him to get a job? Why do I miss him when I would watch him go nuts throwing stuff around the house and foam at the mouth when he yelled at me? Why do I miss him even though he screamed at me in front of our children? Am I in the wrong for demanding him to get a job? Am I in the wrong for kicking him out? I came here because I want someone else's opinion that I don't know. Can someone please help me understand what I'm feeling and point me on the right path?

Worried a little bit, did this happen to anyone else

I was out today with my daughter in her pram, well we were walking under some trees to a cafe literally seconds away, well we got there and I saw something on my daughters hand, I took her hand to know what was on it and realised, I quickly held her hand and wiped it down with baby wipes, while full on having an argument with my husband because he couldn't hear in the busy cafe what was going on, it was just a little bit on her hand, it was mainly on the side of her pram, inside and her blanket, which I quickly removed, I grabbed my daughter and whisked her to the loos and did a full wash of her hands and full explore of her mouth and lips to see if he put them in, I found nothing and I checked, I refused to put her in her pram for the rest of the day, I used the baby carrier, I got some anti bac spray for the pram and as soon as I back at out rented holiday cottage I took the insert and anything else that can be washed out the pram to wash in the washing machine, I have done it correctly, I am still thinking about it

Screen time help

I’m kind of new to this stay at home mom thing. We have recently done a huge move from Canada to the United States. Previously I had my son who is non verbal autistic, enrolled in preschool and day care, so he was kept busy most of the day.
With the move, I am unable to work with the visa I’m on but also decided it was probably best to stay home with my boys. We live in Nevada, and I haven’t heard the greatest things about the school system here, especially for non verbal kiddos.
My problem now is we spend way too much time watching tv. It’s really hot here in the afternoons so I don’t love spending too much time outside. We try and hit that in the mornings.
I also have a 1 year old, so I like to be home in the afternoon so he can have a nap.
It’s also not as easy as “just play with your kid” well I wish I could, but it’s really hard to get engagement from him. I also have adhd, and since there’s no feedback loop of interaction, I get very easily bored. So I feel like an awful parent on my phone all the time.
Looking for advice, maybe help with a routine.
