I saw this video on Instagram reels, about how to take a shower with a newborn. The comments were full of debate between moms who thought letting your baby cry 5 min it's okay to take care of yourself, and moms who said they can't hear their babies cry at all.
Personally I physically cannot hear my baby cry, he always cries for a reason (hungry, tired, diaper, reflux) so I can't hear his cries and do other stuff. It's almost like an animal instinct, my brain gets really overstimulated and all I can think is how to make it stop. When I shower I pump before, and leave a bottle for my husband to feed him if necessary, but when I'm alone (like most days) I wait till he wakes up and put him in a bouncer on the bathroom with me (if I let him sleeping he ALWAYS wakes up the second I'm gone) what do you do??? I'll try to put the link in the comments so you can watch the video too.

My brain felt like it was on fire when I heard my newborn crying

It's also not healthy for their mental health development to let them just sit there and cry

I made sure they were fed burped and dry then shower and if they cry for a little then so be it but I know the main needs are freshly cared for

I can't stand hearing my baby crying even now at 6 months. It feels like my skin begins to bubble, my blood begins to boil, my heart races, my head feels like it's on fire like Parker said. I NEED to make it stop. Same when dad is trying to do naps or bedtime and she's just screaming and screaming eventually I barge in and take over because I just can't listen any longer. Most times in those cases though she's hungry and he's not clocked into it yet and she'll settle with him after a feed. She loves a good nap on Daddas chest

It's really hard to hear for a reason, because we're biologically wired to respond to crying, and newborn cries are designed to aggravate our nervous systems.
That said, a couple of minutes of crying if you have to go to the bathroom / haven't showered in 6 days / just desperately need to make a cup of coffee will not hurt them. If they are fed, warm, comfortable, clean, and you show them lots of love and affection on a regular basis, they are not neglected. There's a reason it's advised to put baby down if you feel yourself getting frustrated and overstimulated, and it wouldn't be advised if it was harmful. A crying baby is hard to hear, but it does mean they are alive and healthy.

If I was on my last 90 seconds of them shower, I’m finishing my shower. There’s no reason for mothers to go days and days without showering. The baby will be fine.

I truly felt like I was in fight or flight when my baby would cry and showering to “care for myself” while he cried left me worse off than I was mentally

Yeah it’s not fun. I do the same. Baby in the bouncer and play soft music for him

Having experienced the witching hour where both children cried non stop from 7-9 then they will be fine for a few minutes in the shower or while cooking dinner or going to the bathroom. That said back then we only had a bath so used to wait until oh was home.

I’m a single mum so there are many times I have to leave my baby to cry for a short time in order to get things done. There’s no waiting for a partner gets home so I can catch up on stuff. It is what it is and if I did everything around my baby he’d be drinking from unsterilised bottles and I’d be a stinking mess x

If I’m trying to get something done like in the middle of cooking something I don’t want to burn, heating a bottle ect I’ll let her cry but only for a couple
Minutes and I hate hearing it it makes me sad.

I can’t hear my baby cry. When she was newborn, I’d shower before my partner went to work or after he returned so he could be with her. As she got older, I’d have her in the bathroom with me.
Now, she’s 13 months so is happy to be left in the playpen whilst I shower but if she cries, I’m straight out to sort her out. If it means hopping in and out twenty times for a 5 mins shower, then so be it.
However, I didn’t judge those that finish their shower or put their wellbeing first in this scenario as long as it’s not prolonged periods of time.
Mums need to look after themselves to adequately look after their babies.

I feel like a freaking unicorn. I didn't like hearing my bubba cry but If I needed the shower, he could wait. A few minutes won't harm him.
Sometimes I'd have him in the rocker or pram.
The second I was out of the shower he was getting all the snuggles and all his needs met.
Mum's are just as important and we need to look after ourselves to better care for our kiddos.

I waited for baby to fall asleep and put her in the chairs you can get and is put that in the bathroom so I could watch her she never woke up and I could the. Quickly shower but if she did cry I would just leave her for a second because she in the room with me I know she’s safe and I can see to her in a few min x

I alwaysssss put the bassinet in the bathroom with me! And if baby needs me, I hop out and attend to them! You really never know what could be wrong unless they’re sitting in front of you!
Hey all!
My girl is nearly 7 months and for little while she has been a nightmare to change her nappies and clothes 🫣😂
All she wants to do is roll onto her front and try crawl off the mat!
I used to be able to distract her by singing and dancing - but now I can’t find anything to distract her and I’m chasing her around her changing mat 😂 and trying to change her backwards lol
I know it’s normal for most babies to go through these stages, just wondered if anyone has found anything that has helped.?

My 8 wk baby always wants to be held. Since he was born he doesn’t like going down in his crib at all, and even though we’ve tried everything ( I mean everything! The clothes wth my scent on them, holding him for 20 mins into a deep sleep then putting him down, swaddles) he wakes up and cries as soon as he’s down. This is the same everywhere, I can put him in his rocker or play mat for around 20 mins when all the stars align and he’s in a good mood. I’m scared I’m building a stick for my own back and that he will always be clingy. Anyone gone through something similar?

Girls, my little girl is 14 months old now and is struggling in her cot as we co slept from December right threw till about 2 weeks ago, I’ve found that when I put my pillow I don’t use in which by the way is quite thin and a lot firmer than the rest she seems to sleep a lot better but I’m terrified of her sleeping with one I’ve bought her a toddler one and again she wakes up constantly should I leave her without one and get up or is she ok with my pillow? I’m worried she’s still to young

Sorry in advance for the long post...Bit of context, our baby girl is 7months and was in the NICU for 5 weeks. She has always been a terrible napper/sleeper. Bedtime routine used to be bath, boob, bottle (we were triple feeding with ebm to help gain weight), rock & put down. She would fuss a little and we might have to rock her again but then she would sleep for a few hours. We started off by putting her down for 1 nap a day and worked up, but she never managed every nap going down.
She now exclusively nurses, and getting her down for bed is much easier as she just breastfeeds side-lying in bed and once she's done I place her in her cot and she sleeps much better at night.
The issue is, at about 4/5months, she started refusing to be held when breastfeeding most of the time when we were at home. She gets very distracted and will fuss and cry and wriggle away even if she is hungry, and unless we are out of the house she will only breastfeed and nap when lying next to be on my bed. She will wake up instantly if I try to put her into her cot or if I try to get up and leave so for 3 or 4 naps a day I am feeding her and then just stuck in bed. Sometimes, its heaven because I have a great excuse for extra rest but it would be amazing to be able to get some free time back, get some housework done and socialise (if we have guests over, I feel rude and a bit silly just staying upstairs as no-one seems to understand). I have tried to avoid doing it because I didnt want it to become a habit, but she will flat out refuse to nurse any other way, and im worried about worsening the aversion if I keep trying. She will occasionally feed lying on a pillow on the sofa if I lie down too, but again she gets very distracted. Would rather not go back to rocking as it used to take me and my partner forever to get her to sleep and multiple attempts, and I dont mind continuing to feed her on my bed at night as it seems to be working well but I'd love to be able to get her to nap alone for even 1 or 2 naps a day. She will nap in the car and in her pram if she is tired enough, but will wake up as soon as we stop so it doesnt reslly give me any free time back and also means she is taking less milk and then sleeps worse at night.
Anyone else been in the same boat? Or have any advice? I'm desperate at this point 🥺

Girls helppp I’m scared for the sleep regression. FTM my daughter is 3 months old.
Shes overall a good sleeper now. We’ve had a few bad nights which is giving me a tester for the 4 month sleep regression and the anxiety it’s giving me I’m scared 😭😭😭
I do all the night wake ups through the night due to my partner working long days so it will all fall on me!

My baby is 4 months old, and for the past few weeks she has been waking almost every hour at night. She wants to breastfeed and then goes straight back to sleep.
During the day, she usually only naps for around 30 minutes. If I rock her back to sleep, sometimes she will continue sleeping, but other times she just stays awake.
What am I doing wrong? How can I change this, if it’s even possible? I’m exhausted. 😭
