Hospital recommendations

Hello hello. I’ve only just moved to Newcastle from London and wanted to do my research on hospitals and was keen to know anyone’s experience if they are happy to share in hospitals close to the Long Benton area?
Would really appreciate if anyone could help a girl out x

Queen Elizabeth was great for us, my partner stayed through the entire process x

I was at the RVI, very good pre-birth (emergency c-section) however no partners overnight and a busy ward meant I felt I slipped through the cracks a little. If you’re low risk you can possibly give birth in the attached birthing centre and I think dads are able to stay with you there.

I had my little boy at Cramlington NSECH couldn’t fault them. Get your own room as well which is a bonus!

With my first I didn’t have a good experience personally, didn’t feel listened to at all and partner had to leave after A couple hours as I had my baby at night and went on a shared ward. Just given birth at Cramlington and that was my best experience and dad could stay the full time with a bed next to your bed ( you get your own room) and I felt they were amazing from start to finish!

I have heard generally good things about NSECH (including my own experience) and quite mixed things about the RVI. I know several people who had their first at RVI then second at NSECH as they didn't want to give birth at the RVI again

Gave birth last week at rvi and couldn’t fault them. Had planned to use the birthing centre but ended up having to go upstairs to deliver as my blood pressure was increasing. All the staff were fantastic!! Only down side was if you dont give birth in the birthing centre (you have to be low risk) and have to stay over night on the post natal ward its a 4 bed shared ward and nowhere for dad to stay over with you. Visiting hours for birth partner is 6am-10pm, also difficult to sleep as staff can be in and out to check on you and if there is anyone else on the ward - i was on my own for a few hours during the night but then someone else was admitted and our babies took it in turn to cry 🙈 x

RVI for both my babies. Induction for my first and partner was able to stay throughout, second birthing partner invited once I was in delivery. Second baby was spontaneous labour but I was allowed 2 birthing partners at any given time. Private en suite delivery room then put on a ward, first baby I got put in the birthing suite as it was closed and it was ideal, second baby was shared with 4 other mums. But our toddler was able to visit second time round and we were discharged the same day for each birth so not sure I’m the best person to give advice. But RVI didn’t let us down in our circumstances 🥰

Thank you everyone for your replies. I have opted for Cramlington as it’s important for me to have someone with me post birth due to having a horrible experience last time. Thank you :) This really helps

Labour?

Contractions have been regular then seemed to taper off a bit. Screenshot from my app. Is this actually labour? Each contraction is very painful and im sort of trying to breathe through them but also sometimes having to moan. I'm shattered as I've not slept a wink so far tonight as its been ongoing on and off all evening/night. Should I call triage and ask to be seen? Don't want a wasted 40min journey 🙈

Successful VBAC welcome to the world!

Waters broke at 36 plus 4, after 36 hours of labour, including the most intense contractions and pushing that I thought was impossible (you’ve got this ladies!) followed being cut open and stitched back up to get her out when she was stuck, my darling daughter Loretta was born at 5 pounds 5 🩷

Second time round and still the best feeling in the world, holding your newborn for the first time 🥹🥹🥹

Head flopped backwards

Mums, has this ever happened to you?

My 9-week-old was being held upright and for a second I took my hand away from supporting his upper back/neck. He suddenly flopped backwards quite far and it really scared me. He seemed completely fine afterwards and has been acting normally.

I know babies this age still have wobbly head control, but has anyone else had a similar moment? I think I just need some reassurance 😭

5 weeks pregnant – is mild cramping normal? 🤍

Hi everyone 🤍 I’m currently around 5 weeks pregnant and just looking for a bit of reassurance!

I’ve been having some mild cramping, quite similar to period cramps, which comes and goes. I don’t have any bleeding and it isn’t severe, but naturally I’m worrying about every little thing at the moment! 😂

I’ve submitted my maternity self-referral but I’m still waiting for it to be accepted, so I haven’t been able to speak to a midwife yet.

Did anyone else experience mild cramping around 4–6 weeks? Was everything okay with your pregnancy? 🤍

I’d love to hear your experiences! x
