Last night I was holding my newborn upright on my chest and he fell asleep on me as usual but his owlet alarm went off saying oxygen level dropped to below 80%. I sat him straight upright and checked him over (he was fine) and owlet levels went straight back up to high 90s. Was this a false alarm does anybody know?! It was all so quick so I honestly can’t pinpoint a thing but I’m so anxious now

Sorry that happened that sounds so stressful! I’m a new mom to an almost 3 month old and I’m so happy I have the Owlet too!
I wonder if he wasn’t getting enough air on your chest? And how many weeks is he/can he keep his head turned to one side for long? Praying it was just a fluke / one time thing and nothings wrong!

If he was chin to chest it could have been that his airway was compressed.

Oh no that must have been so scary! Sorry to hear. Maybe I should get one. Where would I get this device? Estimated cost? I wish I could help

I have used the owlet for two kids and had a couple red alarms but when I check on the kids they are fine. It was probably either the position he was sleeping in or it could have been a false alarm. If it keeps happening then I think it is something to mention to a doctor. It definitely scares you.

It’s probably just that the sock might of moved a little, I had it happen to me once !

I've read what others have said but I'd like to point out from my own experience with my owlet and the alarm. It can go off for random reasons too! Mine went off at 2am once while I was up feeding and changing the nappy. Frightened the life out of me, did a full head to toe check. Her nose and mouth were completely clear at the time but when I read an explanation on the app it made sense. Also, remember that it's a sensor on their skin. So any slip out of place, foot placement changes etc can change the reading.
We monitor my step sons oxygen levels on a normal pulse oximeter given his Wheeze issues as soon as he gets a cold because he can desaturate FAST. Even learning from that and paramedics who have come out to us. We take numerous different readings, making sure the pulse rate corresponds etc before we trust what it's giving us!

My son is 7 weeks old and I’ve gotten a critical alert like 4 times, all while I was holding him and feeding him. I read that this can happen during feedings and burping them. I asked chat gpt and it said that he would be blue around his mouth if it truly dropped below 80%. I’m not sure though but it’s definitely so scary in the moment!
Thank you all! Much more reassured xx
