Hiya, I’m on insulin before bed to help my fasting readings. Currently on 16 units. I can promise you there is nothing to worry about as I don’t think insulin gives off any side effects if used as directed by the diabetes team. It’s really helped my numbers in the morning. If you have been advised to start insulin, I would start it as it will help you and keep baby safe

It’s absolutely fine. I was on it from about 25 weeks last time and probably 13-14 weeks this time. It doesn’t harm baby. If anything it’s harmful to not take it, as your body isn’t dealing with sugar and carbs properly, meaning baby is getting excess and can gain excess weight. This could make birth more difficult. I would absolutely recommend taking it as you have been advised!

Then don’t, I have a positive story of not taking the doctors recommendations. Unfortunately I could not control my fasting numbers with diet. They recommended the medicine because I said I will not do insulin. I ended up not doing the medicine either and I gave birth to a healthy little boy 5lbs 15oz. Had a natural vaginal birth with no complications

You have to watch if you’re going to be driving - test before driving to make sure reading aren’t too low. But other than that it is safe and they would not have recommended it if it was dangerous. They also would not have recommended it if it wouldn’t help. Obviously it’s your call.
