Hey all! I am due to have a c-section in a few weeks and I am a first time mum so I have no clue!
What are the essentials I will need to assist in recovery please?
Anything that you found of great help when you’re home and recovering

I bought disposable pull up pants and used lilet maternity pads in them. Used them for both my sections . My babies are 11 months apart.
Was just easier and didn’t worry about leakage as bled a lot more than a normal period after and they come up high so didn’t irritate my wound xx

Loose high waisted underwear and trousers, I lived in pjs for a few weeks after my emergency section and honestly it was bliss 🤣

Get a good firm pillow to sit in front when you’re in the sofa. You’ll need to shuffle forward when getting up - no different to now haha but the less shuffling the less it should hurt. Also if you can, ask for a PICO dressing! They are a game changer and really speed up recovery.
Ask for help!!! You’re having major abdominal surgery and then having to care for this tiny baby. Take the pain killers too. If you’re breastfeeding you’re limited to paracetamol and ibuprofen but make sure you take them.
Good luck!

Definitely get a belly binder because that will help. Keep your belly still when you move around. It will definitely help with some of the pain.

I found a compression shorts/leggings brilliant after mine. Won’t be able to wear them for a few weeks but when you start moving more they were great 👍

Really enormous pants - the less sexy the better 🤣 You won't want anything touching that scar area for a while!

Everyone’s pretty much hit the nail on the head with replies but what I will say is:
Adult nappies, so comfy and just convenient!
Don’t lie down, when you go to bed just put some pillows under you because getting up is HARD
when you feel like you’re ready for a little walk, debate your life choices because I was ready… and my other half had to come pick me up about 7 minutes later 🤣

I used incontinence pants for the first week and put a liner in those, just saved the agg of any leaking etc I could just throw them.
Don’t over do it, I went for a walk around a week after my section as I felt okay and then thought I was haemorrhaging 🫠 X

Peppermint tea to help move gas through.
Start taking liquid laxative (Lactulose) 1 week prior to c section date, and continue until your first poops.
Take ALL the medication. Don't stop if / when you start to feel better, just finish the course.
A firm ish pillow to hold against incision for coughing, sneezing and laughing, as well as first poops!
And move (slowly) as much as you can, as this aids recovery.
Take it steady. Take all the help offered.
You'll still need maternity disposable adult nappies / pads as you will still heavily for a number of weeks.
And keep using your maternity knickers so theres no rubbing on your incision.

Bridget jones style pants!😂🥲the always postpartum disposable pants were great, I loved them and used them for the first week.
Definitely having your own laxative on top of what the hospital give you!
Make sure you have paracetamol and ibuprofen stocked up at home and comfy lounge clothes that aren’t tight

Don’t leave hospital without good pain medication. Don’t let them fob you off with alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen 🤣
I got a button up front nightie that I lived in, could breastfeed but didn’t have the waistband for my stomach area.
The tena lady disposable pants are your friend (they tear off as bending to take them off hurt me at first).
Take as much help as you can. I stayed in bed for the first 5 days or so just feeding baby, my mum and husband did all caring, nappy changes etc. They had him in between feeds so I could rest. I massively underestimated how much help id need, just getting out of bed to go to the toilet was a challenge.
Also the seatbelt on the car on the way back from hospital was painful. I wedged a cardigan rolled up to stop it being quite so tight.

Food! Take plenty of snacks c

I loved the Frida disposable pants with the Frida pads but tbh the Tesco maternity pads were just as good. Definitely a small pillow or something for when you go to the toilet! Even just for a wee!
