My baby girl doesn’t seem to wake up herself for any feeds, if I don’t wake her she will just sleep all day which is concerning to me. I have brought it up with community midwife who I saw on Saturday they did the checks and said baby is healthy and doing well. She has little bit of jaundice but midwife said that will go away on its own and that the more she feeds the quicker it will go. I’m a first time mum so please be kind and understanding. But I’m worried my daughter, has anyone else experienced this and what do I do?

Call triage, let them know she's feeding less, not waking for feeds, has she lost weight? . Jaundice can be a vicious cycle. It makes babies tired which makes them feed less, which makes them tired which makes the feed less....
Jaundice can worsen over days 3-7 and it can need treatment under lights, so it might have been ok when it was checked with midwife but might have increased since.
Both my girls had this and need treatment under the lights. Triage should get baby reviewed by the doctors to rule out high jaundice levels.

My son was like this, he never woke up for feeds and he never cried if he had wet/ dirty nappies either, he still doesn’t and he’s 9 months next week! we set timers every 3 hours to feed him until about 8 weeks old I think it was, because he wouldn’t cry even if he was hungry, he’s always been healthy, I would try not to worry too much about it unless of course your gut feeling is something is really wrong then definitely take her to see gp even if it’s to put your mind at ease

If she’s a little bit jaundice it tracks she’s more sleepier than you’d expect. Keep feeding her every 2-3 hours, even dream feeds when sleeping until 2/3 months or so. After that, as long as her weight is on track, let her sleep through the night and enjoy the rest yourself 🙂. Xx

Thats newborns for you. My baby was the same. Two weeks time it will be a different story. Just wake baby up every three hours for feeds if not the jaundice will get worse.

Our little one was premature so spent the first month of his life in Hospital. When he finally came home, we were lost but we created a routine so he would be fed every so hours and then change his nappy at the same time. We wrote down every feed, every nappy change and whether it was a wet or dirty nappy. May just help you keep track. Call your health visitor too, they are there to help

My son could not be woken up for almost the first month. We undressed him, changed him, bugged him and nothing worked. A cold cloth was the only thing that kinda worked and even then he’d just fall right back asleep after latching. At one point he went over 6 hours without eating. I had to pump and we supplemented after breastfeeding by giving him my milk thru a tube. It was so hard, but eventually he woke up more and got the hang of feeding. Now he’s 4 months and 18 lbs! He was also jaundiced so tube supplementing with pumped milk and also sun baths (5 mins each side) got him normal in a few days

newborns do sleep a lot. My first was like this. We just set an alarm every 5 hours to wake him in the night and I woke him every few hours in the day. He then never slept after a couple of months. If you’re worried though I’d go to the gp or contact your midwife

Try changing her nappy and getting her fully undressed to do this as the cold air and cold sensations from the wipes tends to wake babies up. Try waking every 2-3 hours even through night as going too long in between it can cause their blood sugars to drop.
If this doesn’t help I’d definitely call the midwife or triage and ask again for her to be checked over and make sure that the jaundice isn’t getting worse x

If she’s gaining weight, staying on her centile, and having plenty of wet & dirty nappies, let her sleep and feed on demand. Babies know what they need! They’re smarter than we give them credit for

My son was like this. I used to set alarms to feed him and would have to strip his clothes off to rouse him. Trying to keep him awake through a feed was such a mission. I’d feed on one boob, do a nappy change to wake him up a bit more and then feed on the other side.

If they are over birthweight it's OK to let them sleep. Otherwise wake after 3hrs
