I have one, you definitely still have to hold the baby while using it because they can slip out. It just removes some of the pressure.

I’d suggest finding a better full carrier or a sling library that could help with fit. I have a Tula FTG and zero back ache despite c section etc. These are still very much hands on and really only for short carries x

No they aren't safety tested and been shown for buckles to come undone in use.
Also a carrier on the side isn't suitable for a new born anyway. You'd use those after 4 months minimum. Better after 6 months.
You'd be better with a ring sling, stretchy wrap or buckle carrier.
