Breastfeeding popularity

Absolutely zero judgement here, but I’m curious how many people actually breastfeed? I exclusively breastfed my first for a year and currently 9.5 months in with my second. Out of the 11 babies in my friend group my 2 are the only ones breastfed past 3 months.

I’ll continue until my baby self weans, even if that means tandem feeding with a younger sibling

Avatar

I breastfed each of my kids to 18 months. In my friend group breastfeeding and usually extended breastfeeding past a year has been the norm. I know all types of people who did or didn’t breastfed for all types of reasons.

Avatar

Breastfed for 3 years. Only have 3 friends with children and I think our postpartum experiences heavily affected which of us breastfed and for how long.
My best friend nursed her daughter for 2 years and we are equally as proud of each other

Avatar

Combo fed one year, nursed til 2 years and 7 months

Avatar

Breastfed for 25 months and only stopped as I was pregnant again and my milk dried up and I found dry nursing unbearably painful. Will breastfeed my second until he self weans x

Avatar

I breastfed my 1st until 19 months. I plan on breastfeeding my second as long as i can mentally handle

Avatar

I ebf for 4 weeks (i know - not long), however was hospitalised at 4 weeks pp with mastitis and sepsis, with a blockage so had to introduce formula. Was very out of it for 4 days. Milk supply dropped massively so had to combi feed. Eventually milk dried out at 4 months so had to fully formula feed. Would have gone much longer if I could. X

Avatar

i pumped for 4.5 months as baby wouldn’t bf, he refused to eat at 1 day old. So was combi feed. Then he got ill and refused my milk, he was too poorly for me to pump and my milk supply dropped. As he kept refusing it seemed silly to keep pumping to throw it away. I was gutted as wanted to get to at least 6 months x

Avatar

Going nearly 15 months strong here. In my friend’s circle, only 1 mother formula fed but that was after 6 months. The other 5, not including myself, have breastfed for at least a year

Avatar

i didn’t produce anything until my son was 3 days old, so he was much more comfortable with a bottle than my breast. i tried pumping but definitely did something wrong, ended up with 2 lumps in my armpit??? and very sore boobs and i just thought no not a bit of me. he’d had no issues with the formula so i thought i’d just carry him on with it. if i have another baby one day i want to do more research/attend classes on breastfeeding so i can give it another go

Avatar

I breastfed my first until just over 2 years. I would have gone longer, but it was a sensory nightmare while pregnant with my second. I hope to go at least 2 years with her as well. She doesn't seem to like nursing as much as he did though so she may self-wean eventually

Avatar

Bf my first till she was 2.5 years and still feeding my second at 16 months. But I don’t know many people IRL who breastfeed.

Avatar

I wanted to go to a yr but it just didn't work out for us so I stopped at 7m

Avatar

I put 6 months but really my son self weaned at 9 months and seems like my daughter is following suit eventhough my mama heart isn't ready 💔

Avatar

21 months of breastfeeding

Avatar

Breastfed until 22 months

Avatar

Me and my bestie both BF until 3yrs she tandem fed 2U2 the other gal FF

Avatar

Currently tandem feeding my nearly 2 year old and my 3 week old

Avatar

7 months and I’m combo feeding, formula is a back up as I mainly give breast milk

Avatar

Currently been breastfeeding 19 months, 16 weeks pregnant and will tandem nurse if my daughter doesn't self-wean before then.

Avatar

Ebf my first born and she’s 8 months currently

Avatar

I breastfed for 8 months wanted to go longer but she was the one who decided she was done! She was also doing formula but it was more if she was still hungry after feeding 😊

Avatar

My first self weaned at 11 months and currently EBF my second for almost 5 months, she won’t take a bottle even with pumped milk so I think it may be different this time. My goal was to get to 1 year!

Avatar

Currently weaning at 16 months

Avatar

Still going!! 🙌🏼

Avatar

My first I went straight to formula. My 2nd I tried bf but she has a small tongue tie. Struggled with a decent latch so had to feed abit of both. They wouldn't sort her tongue tie so I jad to end my bf by 3 months as it was half and half and despite pumping I wasn't producing alot. Ive learnt alot more since. If I have anymore children then I can use it on them

Avatar

My little girl is 19 months and still loves it. I fed her older brother for 1.5 years, but will aim for 2 years this time I think.

Avatar

Ebf my first for one year and now same for my new born aiming for 1 year as well.

Avatar

4 months breastfeeding my first, 6 months with my second. That’s all I got, I supplemented with formula too as my supply both times was crap no matter what I did or who I saw.

Avatar

Now tandem feeding my 2 year old and 8 week old.

Avatar

I breastfed to 2 years with my first and my second is only 3 months old so I’m still breastfeeding- I’m hoping to go to 1 year with him

Avatar

I only got to 3 months and after that nothing would come out. The cycle of stress from not producing milk also reduced my ability to produce milk so she was formula fed from 3 months onward.

Avatar

I clicked to one yr but were still going at close to 16m and I don’t see how we would stop before he’s 3+ … it’s been extremely difficult for our home life more than anything but we have a lot of trouble getting him to settle enough to consume much of anything else & he’s never taken bottle so its really not a question esp since I’ve always had hyper supply. We’d always planned on self weaning

Avatar

I've been breastfeeding since hospital to now (3 months) and don't plan to stop any time soon. I also used a haaka pump for a couple of days in the hospital and fed the milk to the baby from a tiny cup, because there was concern that he wasn't gaining enough weight. But now quite happy for him to drink straight from the tap.

Avatar

Breastfed till 15m with my first no formula, then had to stop. breastfed till 6m then formula and breastfeed with my second. Would have kept it as just breast with both but I develop lactation induced urticaria & angioedema 😭 naturally can’t keep going so I don’t die lol

Avatar

3years with my first 2 with my second !

Avatar

3.5 years. Naturally stopped when both me and my daughter were ready

Avatar

2 years with my son and 22 months either my daughter, stopped when both were ready x

Avatar

I exclusively breastfed our 1st up to 17½ months (naturally weaned off me and i was heavily pregnant with 2nd) and currently breastfeeding our 2nd who is 10 months old

Avatar

Still breastfeeding my 19 month old and plan on tandem feeding when 2nd baby arrives

Avatar

Breasted 2 of of my kiddos till over 2 yrs old still breastfeeding youngest who’s just over 2 and middle one was bottle fed didn’t take boob x

Avatar

I’m 4 months in right now and plan to go until he is 2 years old

Avatar

Currently going into month 7… 6month longer than I thought I would! Although I am trying to get him into the bottle so I can go back to work.

Avatar

Breastfed for 3 years. He would’ve gone longer but I chose to stop shortly after his 3rd birthday

Avatar

I tried so hard but my supply sucked and consequently my baby became dehydrated so, i breastfed for all of a month and combi fed for 3 months. The disappointment of 2-3oz (combined) after half hour pumps essentially sped up my decision to stop pumping.

Avatar

Breastfeeding still 3 years

Avatar

Still BFing at 13 months. Not planning to stop anytime soon!

Avatar

EBF so far. LG is 8 months old. But planning to wean of breast milk around 10/11 months as i am going back to work. My job involves me travelling so this is why I decided I will stop, otherwise I would have continued.

Avatar

Still breastfeeding now at 2.5 years although we’re down to one small feed a day at bedtime and we’re looking to stop soon, which I’m sad about but I feel it’s the right time for us.

Avatar

I tried to establish it for a few weeks but had to stop due to multiple medical reasons. It makes me very sad. My intention was to breastfeed for 6 months.

Just curious

Hi everyone!

I found myself in a VERY unique situation 2 months ago. I found out I was pregnant with my baby boy, literally the night before I officially gave birth to him. I had all of 16 hours to mentally and emotionally prepare myself to bring another life into the world. Mind you. He is my first (and hopefully only) child. There are no words to describe the mental change that took place while finding out about my cryptic pregnancy, especially after being my entire life, that I would NEVER be capable of having children. Is there anyone else out there, who has gone through this?

My baby fell off the bed / feeling like the worst mum ever.

My baby is 9 months old for reference.
So, we co sleep (following safe sleep regulations) as he will not settle, relax or sleep in a cot or next-to-me-cot. I have tried sleep training but it gets nowhere. I am also a single mum which means I have to deal with the repercussions of every failed attempt alone with a baby who already sleeps awfully. Point is, co sleeping works for us... usually.

Anyway, baby was fast asleep and far away from the edge of the bed. I put the monitor on so I could nip to the toilet. I noticed him beginning to stir so I hopped off and rushed back, but it was already too late as I heard that dreaded 'Thud.'

He cried immediately and was very distressed. I could not see any red marks on his face/head or body. He was on his arms and legs when I found him so I'm praying he broke his own fall. He settled relatively quickly. No breathing issues, no weird movement, no weird pupils, no floppiness, no confusion other than 'what just happened?!'

He is currently playing and crawling/climbing as normal, fully engaged and not confused or overly tired. No vomiting or anything. He has had 2 wees and a nice big bottle and its been about an hour since the fall.

I know I should call 111 but my fear is that they will ask us to come in. I cant get to the hospital. My parents are the only people I know with a licence but both of them have been out drinking.

Worst case; I imagine they'd offer to send paramedics out or an ambulance but knowing the NHS that will take hours and then get cancelled or just never show (not the workers fault.) My baby already has a cold so I really dont want to give him a night of broken sleep and stress if its likely enough to be fine?

There is no symptoms or changes to raise concern but I am also aware that you cannot rule out an injury without proper assessment 🫠🫠 I just don't know what to do.

Baby won’t lay flat!

Hi Mamas, please help me here. I am absolutely tired and devastated. My baby is continuously refusing to lay down flat, even if we cosleep from 4 weeks old. I can’t do it anymore. He is 11 weeks old and I cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. He sleeps really well, but will only sleep in our arms. He may give a 1-2 hour stretch at night laying flat but can sleep for 8 hours if in arms. I have tried cosleeping, that did not work as well. Pediatricians keep saying it’s normal. How is this normal?

2 1/2 month old poop (BM fed)

How many poops does your 2 1/2 month old have?
Mine were pooping every 3 hours I’d say but now suddenly one of my boys hasn’t pooped in about 10 hours?
Is this normal?
