Assuming my baby is born in June not July as my due date is the end of the month, I believe we would qualify for 30 hours funding from April providing I’m back to work.
However I have just discovered that the nursery does not have availability until June 2027!! I am shocked as it’s the nursery my daughter is at and we didn’t sign her up until after she was born. Choosing another nursery is not an option.
My question is this - if baby is born in June 26 an starts nursery June 27, can the funding start straight away? Or will we be made to wait until September as he did not start nursery at the beginning of the new term in April?

If the baby is born June 26 and starts nursery June 27 you won’t get the funding until September 27 (I will be in this position too).
This is because you have to return to work within 30 days of the free childcare term date so even though technically they are eligible by birthday from April, you won’t be eligible for the funding by the work rules until September which is the next term start date. So the choice is either pay full price from June-September or go back to work in June and try and get family to help just between June-September when they start nursery. We have the same choice to try and make x

Will be dependent on when you return to work. If you return to work by 30th April (or go on annual leave) then you can get funding from April . As long as you claim for the April funding within the time frame you’ll be able to start using it at any point between April-September
