I have been noticing everyone I know that as a boy 2-5 years has been diagnosed with autism. Has anyone else noticed this or maybe I’m just noticing this out of concern for my 10 month old boy.

Autism is more easily diagnosed in males because the way they present themselves differently between genders so they are diagnosed more and earlier

Ironically all the mums I met when my son was younger were diagnosed with autism. That said it’s genetic and maybe I gravitate towards people that are also socially awkward.

I have a 4.5 year old boy. He’s in school and goes to swim lessons, soccer and karate, so we’re around lots of boys this age and the amount I’ve met that I’ve been told are diagnosed or obviously not neurotypical is quite small

Boys tend to get their diagnosis a lot earlier on than most girls do. Because all the criteria in the DSM were written based upon how boys & men present.
I know a lot of neurotypical children, both boys and girls.

Some girls mask a lot and have special interests like makeup and hair to fit in with the crowd. Most women don’t get diagnosed until adulthood because the whole autism diagnostic criteria is based around young boys. Same with ADHD

Personally, I know a lot more neurodiverse adults than kids. I have a nephew who is autistic and that’s the only child I know.
It sounds like maybe you are drifting into questioning the validity of their diagnoses? Or maybe you can share more about why you’re asking this. But ultimately, more diagnosis is a great thing. It means more kids getting support and neurodivergence getting more recognition.

In my friend group, there’s 7 boys, all between the ages of 3-7, none of them have autism.

Nope. Haven’t noticed it. I’m not around children that age though. My niece was diagnosed at 18 months

Boys are diagnosed more and earlier. There is also an influx of people diagnosing themselves and their kids. So I would wonder how many of them are actually diagnosed by a doctor vs parents just noticing some signs

I dont know any. I wouldnt worry about your 10 month old...I'm sure hes a healthy little boy! Also unfortunately nothing you can do to prevent it.
