Sure start grant

Has anyone else applied for the sure start grant? And if so how long before they received it?

Also, I am about to become a single mum with no expected help from the father. My work only pays 80% for 6 weeks and then I am dropped down to SMP. There is no way I can survive on that, I have heard i can top up my income with Universal Credit. But does anyone know the process I would need to go through, who to contact and when to do so? Or is there any other forms of income supplement or support i may be eligible to?

With UC you can either ring up to start a claim or there’s a form online that you can fill out unless it’s all changed since I last done it x

I thought I was entitled to top up with UC as I'm on SMP but it seems like that's not the case. SMP is treated as income it is somehow too high to be topped up with UC. Although if you find out anything else let me know as I only discovered this yesterday 9 weeks pp and very stressed about it all 😖

When I went solely to my SMP side of pay, I was entitled to universal credit. So definitely apply asap! It is counted as income as above, so they do begin deductions over a certain amount depending on what you claim for - use Turn2Us to calculate what you’d be entitled to xx

I really wish they had maternity classes that covered this stuff. It seems so overwhelming on top of everything else.

What do you wipe first?

Okay moms, important science question of the day:
When you’re on your period and you have a bowel movement on the toilet…which do you wipe first - the front or the back?

And please don’t tell me you’re wiping from back to front… that’s how you spread things that should never be spread. 😅😭

Is this valid?

I’m not sure if any of you SAHMs feel the same way, but I personally miss working. I don’t want anyone else to look after my daughter, I’d rather it be me or my husband. But that’s the only reason I don’t work. At home I just feel like I’m never doing enough and my life is going nowhere. Slowly working on being better at keeping up with all the chores and spending more quality time with my daughter because she needs that. But everything feels like an endless cycle. There’s always dishes to be washed, flooring to be swept or mopped, toys to be picked up. And I’m near all of it 24/7 because we only have one car and no disposable income. It’s rather suffocating. I miss people. Real life people. That aren’t my husband and daughter, that I can just talk to and see. This first year pp has me feeling like I’ve been drowning because I don’t have any family or friends here and I’ve tried so hard to meet people but they’ve all fizzled out. Is there something wrong with me? I can’t help but ask that question every day. I struggle with MDD though so I have depressive episodes like this often and maybe that’s the only reason I feel this way. Idk.

Prenatal Care Question

Hi moms! Is prenatal care usually done by the OB GYN, or do you also see a physician assistant?
At Geisinger in PA, they told me I’ll mostly see a physician assistant and might only meet the doctor who delivers my baby on the day of delivery. Is this normal for you too?
