I’m looking for a bit of advice please. I had a Caesarean section and a bleed post birth so didn’t get skin to skin for over 4-5hours.
I found breastfeeding and expressing really difficult at the start as my little one would cry with frustration due to low milk supply or fall asleep on the breast (he had jaundice).. I tried to continue breastfeeding with formula top ups until about a couple of days as I’m physically and mentally exhausted (my little one is now three weeks old today). I’m now pumped every three hours including overnight and feed formula to top up. When pumping, I’m only able to achieve between 25-40ml combined.
We saw a specialist midwife who advised he had a tongue tie which is now being sorted but still issues with latching and falling asleep at the breast.
I’ve even started taking fenugreek a couple days ago recommended by the lactation nurses.
I’m worried that my milk supply will reduce now that I’m no longer attaching to the breast just pumping. Am I doing the right thing?

I'm in a similar situation, and believe me the milk supply will pick up if you're pumping to mimic baby's feeding schedule. I started at the same volume you're getting when I was about 3 weeks pp. We're getting my baby's tongue tie sorted so in the meantime just expressing and feeding him. Topping it up if necessary with formula. I try getting my baby on my breast once a day, and if he falls asleep and isn't taking anymore, I detach him and pump per normal. Don't worry, you're doing the right thing! Let me know if you have any other questions
