Any moms out there, did anyone get a post partum doula or a baby nurse to help with childcare immediately after having a baby?
Assuming you didn’t have family close by, how many hours per week of help for hire do you suppose is reasonable for recovery?
Please help me put together a plan on how much help my husband & I will need. Our moms are not close by. We are both going to be first time parents and he works a full time job.
I’m going to get back to work a few months after but I really don’t know how many hours or days to schedule with the nurse and what’s reasonable.

I had my mom "move in" for a couple of months. The biggest help she provided for me was cooking, cleaning and taking my dog out on walks. I'd say she was most helpful around 6am when baby was awake or wouldn't settle and I needed sleep. After I'd feed, she'd take baby and settle her. Once she'd fall asleep, she'd place her beside me/bassinet. During the day, I didnt have too much of a struggle, aside from the first two weeks where my mon would hold her while I napped. I exclusively breastfed (no bottles or forumula), so the only help she could offer was hold her if baby was awake and fed and I needed to rest. The first two weeks were a blur to me! I was exhausted and adjusting to life with no sleep. After that, it got easier. But cooking, cleaning and dog help was the biggest thing for me because I didnt have energy to do that. The other help was random night wakinggs after baby was fed and everything and I just couldn't get her to calm down. My mom would take over and hold her until she'd fall sleep!

Unfortunately every baby is widely different, so you could have a baby that's up all night and sleeps all day, or up all day but sleeps at night. So making a schedule right off the bat will challenging. I feel like house help (cooking/prepping meals/cleaning) will be very beneficial over a house nurse. But if you plan to bottle feed, you could have a nurse do all the night stuff if you want to sleep
So I must get help at an hourly rate. The way it works is, we schedule the number of hours each week with the post partum nurse. She checks her calendar and provides service for that amount of time. We also pay 50% of her fee in advance while booking based on anticipated usage.

My MIL flew and came a couple days after PP, my baby came early so I had a couple people come check on me before then. Then my mom also drove down to come help a little for a couple days and take newborn pics since she is also a photography
