Hi ladies 👋🏻 I'm planning an Elective c section in August on my first. I'm wondering when does this usually get booked in? My parents live in Ireland and want to come over when baby is born to help. So it would be good to have an idea of when it will be!

Depends on the hospital, I had an elective in 2024 at Grimsby and knew from 12 weeks, his time round I like a hour away and I won’t find out until 32 weeks xx

Im having twins and have GD so consultant has pre booked mine for 36/37 weeks and said they will call me at least 10 days before to let me know the exact date. But I know every county/hospital does it differently. When I went for my 38+2 week scan with my 2nd they saw she was quite big and I was called the next day to say it was in four days and to come in for pre op the day before.

I had elective in 2022 due to breech baby and that was booked around 36/37 weeks with 2 weeks notice (obviously incase baby had turned themselves). I think unless there is a medical reason for you not to go into labour the do it towards the end of your pregnancy in my local hospital. They’ve said we will discuss/book in after 36 weeks with this pregnancy for me x

Most planned electives are exactly one week before due date

Thanks all. Of course it differs between hospitals 🤦🏼♀️ I will ask midwife at next appointment and see if she can advise

Mine was booked 2 months in advance but it really depends on how your pregnancy is going I think. I had to do it in advance because I was high risk and they wanted to have me on the schedule in case they had to move the date up sooner. Or so that’s how my doctors put it at least.
