Should I take milk in my hospital bag?

Hiya,

I’m about to be 39 weeks and so far I seem to have no milk, I’ve tried all the tips of warm massage etc but can’t seem to get anything which makes me think my milk may not come until possibly after baby is born (if at all)

Did anyone else struggle with this or have delayed milk? If so would you recommend me taking some instant baby milk in my hospital bag or would the hospital provide this if my milk hadn’t come in yet?

I've just had my 3rd baby and haven't been able to express any colostrum with either of them I've just breastfed from when they're born and I've never had any issues.

They will only get colostrum for the first few days until your milk comes in. This is all they need.

I have always packed some pre sterilised bottles of milk though just in case as the hospital generally doesn't supply milk x

Some hospitals do provide some but if there is a certain one you want then take some. I wouldn’t worry about not having any coming through.
Have you tried doing it in the bath? Xx

You won’t get ‘milk’ until a few days after baby is born. At the moment you could have colostrum which is what some people express before hand to take with them but a large amount of people can’t get any before baby is born anyway. I wouldn’t worry at all, very normal. Stimulation for milk to be produced is triggered by baby being born. Most hospitals provide formula milk if needed but just check with yours if that’s something you want to do x

I didn’t collect colostrum for either baby and I breastfed my first until 25 months and have an oversupply with my 3 month old. Colostrum means nothing for milk supply.

Giving formula instead of latching baby will delay your milk and interfere with the natural process. When baby is born lots of skin to skin and latch latch latch x

I didn't even attempt to express colostrum with my first, but breastfed him fine from the start. I did manage to express colostrum with my second and similarly breastfed him immediately. Your milk will take a few days to come in after baby is born, but colostrum is enough until then.
I did take some of the pre sterilised little bottles of milk to hospital, just in case I needed it though

Babies extract colostrum WAY more efficiently than hand expressing will.
They’ll only need about a teaspoon a day when they’re first born! Then day 5 my milk ‘came in.’ But that just means it changes from colostrum to mature milk:) totally normal to not have a proper ‘flow’ of milk when baby is first born. Don’t let this put you off!

I couldn't express anything before I had my first but breastfed fine in the hospital.
They cluster feed the first few weeks/months so might seem like you're not producing enough as they'll want to be on the boob all the time but it's just them stimulating milk the milk production.
No one told me this before he was born so thought he wasn't getting enough.

My milk didn’t come in until around day 4 but I had a good collection of colostrum and the hospital told me to supplement with formula (around 20ml of formula every 3 hours after a latch) but keep constantly latching the baby to help milk come in. I also used a pump to help milk come in sooner.

I am taking ready made formula bottles just in case.
My milk didn't come in fully for a few days with my eldest. He also struggled to latch so we used nipple shields which allowed him to latch eventually. Might be another thing to consider as well as the ready made formula.
Sometimes the hospital will provide formula as well though.

I couldn’t get anything out before having a baby and then he latched straight away, I’ll be doing the same with my little girl (I hope in 2 weeks) midwife told me not to worry about taking milk if your wanting to breastfeed as if it doesn’t work they have supply of milk there until you can get some. xxx

I tried and failed to express colostrum and my milk has started to come in around day 4pp. My baby was born with low weight so we were very glad the hospital gave us some formula, and we also got some in the end to make do while my milk supply increases. I would recommend have a couple of bottles in the bag, yes.

Feeding

I breastfed my daughter for a year, she had tongue tie and we had thar released, our journey was hard but we got there. I now have a 6 week old son who I breastfeed and it's been a battle, he struggles latching and staying on etc it got a bit better and I definitely have milk, but it's been very hard at times. I'm now at the point where I dread feeding times, it's constantly on my mind, when did I last feed? How long did he feed? Is he going to be uncomfortably upset during or after or both. Etc etc it's a real battle I know he's doing what babies do cluster feed, fuss etc but I just cant manage it. I actually feel like rubbing away. I feel like a failure at everything. I'm like a stuck record going on about it all time. My husbands getting annoyed with me. I just this minute given up breastfeeding as I was crying. Getting annoyed etc it's not fair on my baby. So I got a ready made formula bottle and given him that, although he still had trouble latching on bottle but he did take it.
Why am I still feeling like this and not relieved has taken a bottle. I really wanted to enjoy breastfeeding but I can't. I also don't know why I can't feel good about bottle feeding, when I know it will help us both. I just can't rationalise.
Also how do I just stop making milk if I don't breastfeed?

When did your toddler tell they love you without prompts or anything?

My little guy 3yo has kissed me out of the blue before to show affectionate and I die inside. I'm just wondering if I love you is later?! Not asking for selfish reasons (feel like I come across like that by asking this!) .. wonder if it's a comprehension thing or speech thing or temperament or something

How old is your child and how many naps do they take?

I have a newly 1 year old and she still takes 3 to 4 naps a day. I’ve been told by other moms that she shouldn’t be napping that much and should transition to only one nap.
Is your child under 2 or even ages 3-5 still napping a lot or no?

My 3 year old has behavior issues. Does it get better?

We got him evaluated at 2 for behavior issues they said he was in the monitor range but didn’t require services. He still hits people all the time. At his new daycare 2 kids came up to me and told me that Tyler hit them…I’m mortified. I don’t know what to do. He’s a really sweet kid sometimes and other times he’s a lot. He was having like 20 minutes tantrums but that has improved to 5 minutes or less. Has anyone else had a kid that was a lot, did they grow out of it?

Nappies

What nappies are we using at night time? My 9 month old is leaking every night which results in us having to change him head to toe and then we are up for 2 hours😩 we’ve always used Asda nappies and never had a problem, I brought pampers pull ups but they are also leaking. I have gone up a size to! 🫠
