Hello,
Any advice on how to self-regulate when you’re overwhelmed with your child? Or if you’re dealing with a tantrum how do you not lose your cool?
I only have an infant but I want to make sure I break my family’s history of abuse by being gentle with my own kid.

I've found that running my hands under cold water really helps me when I feel myself getting overwhelmed

I sing, remind myself they're a child, take a mental pause of reflection (hard to explain but I just look down at the situation as if I was watching it). When its really a struggle (this happened a few days ago) I leave the little one in a safe place and just sit in another room where I can still hear them for a minute to breathe then return. Its really hard but part of the job we've got xx
