My son starts nursery soon and they said they provide all the kids with wellies and rainsuits for playing in the garden.
Does anyone know why this is? Why can't he just wear his own?
The pamphlet didn't explain the reasoning, I suppose I can ask in a few weeks when we get to visit, but I was just curious if other nursery's do this?

Could just be something they offer so parents don’t have to provide extra. I worked at a setting where we provided a set colour of puddlesuits per age group, they were washed on site and ready for the next day if needed. Chasing parents for weather appropriate clothing each day was more work than it was worth. Sometimes children miss out because parents forget or don’t bring weather appropriate clothing. Have they said no to your child wearing his own?

My childminder does this with puddle suits and slippers for in her house! I used to send his puddle suit in his bag before I realised she had some and did forget from time to time so maybe that’s why?
Not sure but it’s nice that they do!

It could be theirs has a logo on it or something for the rainsuits or a safety things. As in they dont have to write down or remember what a child is wearing as all is the same. My nursery we have to provide our own wellies and rainsuits and when they go out they have mini hivis on instead. They also write down descriptions of each childs clothing so if unfortunately any go missing they have an description of what the child is wearing

Probably for safety. Bright color, all look the same etc.
but also helps parents not have to worry about the extra expense

Could be because they got tired of parents moaning about coats getting mucky from playing in the garden? They'll have a mud kitchen, sand etc
Probably easier to have their own stuff that no one can complain about!

We had to provide our own 🤷 is it private or school nursery?

Because it’s hard to keep track of 40 kids different puddlesuits and wellies. They they will have a range of sizes and put them in any.

As a former deputy manager at a nursery - it’s exhausting chasing some parents for wellies and wetsuits so they probably just provide them to cut out the issue of having to find spares when others forget x

US daycare teacher here so idk how helpful this is. We dont do this with jackets or rain boots, just stsy inside, but many centers have done this with toothbrushes. Some require the parent to bring one in each day for after meals, some schools provide them and store them at school for sanitary pourposes. Some schools ask the parent to provide the toothbrush, but one school i was at provided them for free. Its likely due to individual policy and done as a courtesy to parents.

Nursery practitioner here!
It’s because some parents dont provide spare clothes. Nursery children go out in all weather, so when it’s raining, the children stick on their suits and wellies and have a great time, no change of clothes needed. And lots of parents moan if their clothes get dirty.
And it’s kinda like a uniform. They all wear the same. Some children can get v jealous over others!

Sounds generous to me! We had to buy double of everything so he had one at nursery at all times. As above it could be any combination of things. You could probably request he wears his own, just make sure it’s all properly labelled x

1) no risk of losing anyone’s stuff
2) some parents don’t send in the right stuff, so this way all children are covered
3) prevent jealousy between children

Not having to worry about who is who’s, can just chuck them on and off. My son often wearing a nursery spare because in the moment they don’t have time to dig everything out that we’ve sent it
