I had my 36 week appointment but they didn’t discuss colostrum or the birth plan, is that normal? When do they do the birth plan with you?

I got the colostrum syringes from the infant feeding midwives at Dudley Hospital, about 2 months before giving birth when I attended a class about feeding. No one ever specifically asked me for my birth plan. But, aspects of it were mentioned when speaking to midwives and consultants about different things during my appointments. I got the idea that they weren't really bothered about being given a piece of paper or anything official. They just talked about what may or may not happen during the birth, and then I interjected with what I preferred, wanted, or disagreed with as the conversation was going.

My midwife went through my birth plan with me and I asked about harvesting colostrum at 36 weeks on the lead up to 37. My midwife then provided me with syringes and I could also get more through her or through the triage/midwifery team at the hospital. I can't remember exactly when we went through my birthing plan whether it was 36 or 37 weeks, but I know if was in my midwife's radar on the approach to full term x

It should be at 36 weeks. We have syringes to pick up if we want in the waiting area at my midwife’s. They are there for us - take as many as needed. At 34 weeks app, I asked her if we will chat about birth plan at 36. At times with nhs is good to initiate and know what to expect/nudge them…

I wasnt mentioned birth plan at all. I think they just assumed i was having a vaginal birth. It's only when I asked about the options they went into it in a bit more detail. At 36 weeks I was given a colostrum collection kit and attended an online feeding class
