Home Daycare vs Traditional Daycare

Hi Ladies,

I want to know your thoughts on Home Daycare vs Traditional Daycare the ones that have tried it before? Less germs maybe? Lol

Thank you so much.

I’ve worked at both and each has pros and cons. For me, it ended up coming down to how much flexibility my job would have. I loved the idea of home daycare, but your schedule is tied to the provider’s vacations and sick leave. Depending on your work, you may not be able to take sick days if it is the teacher, not your child, who is sick. I found that a relatively small independent daycare has been working well for us - still individualized attention but enough teachers to cover if one is gone.

I had my son in home daycare for about a month or so waiting for spot in real daycare center. It was fine. I prefer real daycare more. More kids and socializing for him. Yea he gets sick alot but I think it doesn't really matter if it's home or center care kids just get sick alot. He absolutely loves daycare now

I used to be a big proponent of non home daycares but my outlook completely changed with a home daycare I tried. We were having a hard time getting daycares to accept my daughter because she didn’t walk or wasn’t potty trained (she had a disability). A home daycare in my neighborhood accepted her. It’s run by the sweetest woman who treated the kids like her grandchildren. Even cooked for them. She was a former teacher and taught the kids as well. She even worked with my daughter on her walking. We loved our experience. My daughter’s prior daycare treated the walking issue more like a liability (would not practice with her) and she often was overlooked in classes of other kids (the daycare seemed more focused on maximizing profit). I would say explore each option in your area and make a decision based on what you see/how you feel. Don’t discount any option.

The one thing about a home daycare I didnt love when touring is you don’t know who’s in and out of the house - do they also have kids, are they older and have friends over? I like that at the daycare my son is at everyone is background checked and I know exactly who is there and has access to my child

My only con to home daycares is the wide variety of ages. There is one in my neighborhood and she accepts 1-5. My social work lens unfortunately makes me nervous of the ages grouped together!

Ultimately I think each setting has its pros and cons and it’s a matter of figuring out what works for you & your family and what’s safe for your little one 🖤

Good luck!

I’ve only done home daycare. Def has its pros and cons. Most providers follow the school vacation/holiday schedule. So it’s sucks when you have to figure out where to take the kiddos for the days your employer does not give you.
Also, I think kids will be sick on any daycare.
Just really do your research on both. Go in person take your baby or babies and have them interact with the provider and ask questions about schedules, who’s helping watch kids how many under one daycare, if they are certified, have CPR, etc. most home daycares have Facebook pages you can see review there.

Has anyone started a business and it’s failed?

Basically that’s what’s happening to me right now. I won’t go into what the business is but it’s bleeding our family dry financially and the worst part is I don’t even need to work. Thankfully I’ve got a loving and supportive husband who has helped keep it afloat as long as possible because i love to work and it felt like a really good move financially at the time. but we got it wrong. We’ve really tried everything and thrown so much money at it, to try make it work and we can’t keep doing it. I’ve got an opportunity to get out this summer but I’m so embarrassed. I’m worried about what other people will say. I’m also worried what I’m going to do as a job. This felt so right and at my core if it wasn’t for the money, it made me so happy. I was so proud of being the owner.
It’s a real shame and I’m going to cry buckets.
My egos really not allowing me to let go and see the facts for what it is but I need to move on but I’m struggling. I keep fantasising that I’ll never have an opportunity like this ever again or we won’t dare try create another business ever again.

The only good thing about all this and I feel thankful that we will actually be better off as a family once it’s gone and I keep thinking of my little boy who deserves a mummy and daddy who aren’t stressed with money.

Can anybody relate to this story if so what happened on the other side?

Stopping weaning

I took baby to be weighed today, she’s 5 months and a week and put on weight so back to her centile. They were happy and I mentioned we had started weaning just porridge in the morning and a veg in the evening. She’s always had reflux and she was quite a bit sick with the veg. They suggested just doing the porridge each day instead as she might not be ready. I really thought she was ready. I work in childcare I know all the guidelines but I feel like I’ve failed so so much. She loved her food but I feel like I’ve failed her.

Meals

Can people give me some easy breakfast, lunch and dinner meal ideas please. I’ve been so crap with a routine for my little boy so he only has solids like every now and then as my adhd doesn’t go well with sticking to a routine. He’s 9 months on the 16th so I need to start getting my butt in gear with it all

When did you all start baby sensory classes? My baby is nearly 8 weeks, but unsure if he’ll fully benefit from it yet?

Can’t leave baby yet

My partner keeps having a go at me because I won’t ’let him’ take our daughter for an hour or 2 to his mums by himself. His mum hasn’t proven overly trustworthy since she was born, he knows that, so does she.

I’m not in a place where I can leave her alone yet, with anyone. He also hates that I’m EBF and won’t put her on the bottle.

What are people’s thoughts here, am I out of order, being unfair? I will always do right by my LG and I feel I’m being punished for it.

We talk, I explain, he understands, conv closed. Then it circles back a couple of weeks later and on and on…

How do I handle it without this constant cycle of coming back round every couple of weeks?
