2nd planned section advice.

My first baby I had a planned section and it was very positive. I have another planned section for this baby. And my anxiety is horrendous, and has been, I have such a fear it will be the complete opposite experience. I’m worried my baby comes too early. And I’m just worried my waters break.

I have been told as I’ve never actively went into labour there’s a high chance it won’t happen and I won’t go early. I’ve also been told I would be treated as an emergency section if I do go early. But I have the fear it’s too late and have to give birth naturally which is my biggest fear.

My mind is playing games with me.

Has anyone had a section before and did go early? And could share with me their experiences?

Hi lovely! I’m also having my second planned section! I had the same fear and spoke to my midwife, she said a lot of first time labours usually last hours, so to not worry at all - even if it was to happen they should be able to get everything sorted with plenty of time!🫶🏼 Im sorry i’ve got no advice on the actual topic but just wanted you to know i’m in the same boat! I hope everything all goes well and to plan for you x

Hey I had to have a planned section with my first as my baby was measuring 10lb 6 at 40 weeks on the scan. She was born 10lb 15, 4.96kg so I was very glad and much safer for all having the section. I had a lovely experience despite being so scared… the team were so calm and reassured me the whole time, I was sent home the next day and no troubles with recovery.

If I have another large baby, I’m having more scans now, then I’ll need the same procedure. I’m again really scared so I’m going through the same emotions as you there but like I said my experience was very positive which may be because it was planned. I was told the same as you, if I went into labour early I’d still have had a section as it was planned.

I would take some comfort in that usually if your body hasn’t laboured before, it would take a long time. So if you showed any signs of labour they would get you in pronto 👌🏽

I’ve been told the same as I was very anxious for the same reason and it has reassured me.
I had my son at 38+1 because of placenta praevia. I’m in the same boat now and they’re said they may even do it from week 37 which has made me more nervous, now!
I think even if we do go into spontaneous labour, it’s not likely to progress quickly, so should be enough time to have the section either way x

Hello! I am in the exact same situation, first was planned due to breech baby and it never once crossed my mind that baby could come early.
This time, baby is measuring big and I am terrified of going into early labour!
I have a midwife appt today so will discuss it with her, but I agree with what everyone has said, first labours are normally very slow (and in my family tend to last days 🙈) so hopefully there will be plenty of time!

I had a discussion on another thread about my hospital not offering inductions after a previous C-section, and I think it was suggested I was wrong for not wanting an induction anyway, so please ignore others opinions on planned csections - you do whatever you need to do to safely bring your baby into the world. Good luck x

Did your 2nd baby come sooner than 1st?

37 weeks with 2nd baby and everyone has been saying the 2nd comes earlier & faster so I’ve been a little nervous thinking he can come any day now, every Braxton hick I think is going to turn into labor but no other signs yet! My first came at 38wks & was 11 hour labor. How was your 2nd baby compared to first?

Coworkers

I literally KNEW this was going to happen which is why I waited so long to tell my coworkers. Overheard someone saying “the second the baby comes out it’s hell. Whatever you do to prepare it’s not enough” all the unhelpful comments are annoying me so bad. We still have the rest of our third trimester to be working and being all big. The comments paired with me being more sensitive than usual is a bad combo. Any advice 😭

How effaced and dilated were you at 38/39 weeks? What week did your first baby come?

Specifically for your first child? I was told today I am 80% effaced and half a cm dilated. Wondering how normal those numbers are? And how soon labor could be?
