I am curious what everyone thinks on second hand baby stuff like, car seat, push chair, cot etc. babies grow very fast, they grow out many things in just few months and kinda feel like it is a waste of money and not good for the environment. And also think as first time mum he/she is going to be my only child so I should get whatever is the best. On a dilemma š¤·āāļø

Iām a big fan of secondhand. Plus secondhand, you can get some nicer things that perhaps you couldnāt justify full price š¤·āāļø weāve had the most amazing highchair for my LG which brand new was something silly like Ā£600 but we paid Ā£50, and itās done us 2.5 years, so absolutely got our moneys worth.
The only brand new things we got have been car seats and her cot (because grandparents wanted to buy it, Iād have been happy to get a second hand cot and a new mattress) or just gifts from people.

I have brought certain things second hand like clothes and some baby toys but I have brought everything else brand new, partly to be safe and ensure itās been looked after but also as a I hope to have more children in the future so it seemed like a worthwhile investment.
I did buy a bouncer and a carrier second hand, but both of these were in extremely good, like new condition.

Car seat I wouldnāt risk unless you know the people youāre getting it from. I absolutely would buy other stuff second hand š a little next to me / Moses basket for example theyāre barely in it and they are usually in great condition too š„°

I think itās completely down to preference however Iāve seen second hand car seats are not recommend as itās near impossible to tell if itās been in an accident or has structural damage and with cots a new mattress is recommended other than those everything else can be cleaned or washed no harm in saving money where you can

Second hand stuff is live! The only thing I would by new is car seat as we never know how it has been used and if it has been in an accident or not

Basically everything we got for our daughter was second hand. I was under the impression why pay triple for something that is only for a small amount of time.
We got an amazing second hand pram, bedside cot, play mat, toys, and endless clothes from either vinted of local charity shops. Iām very happy with it all. and itās easy to clean too. 100% I would recommend. We bought a fresh mattress for the cot but it never got used as we ended up cosleeping 𤣠and she still gets a few brand new clothes but honestly sheās in them for like two months max so itās so wasteful but I canāt resist if something is cute. i genuinely saved thousands and that is so useful when youāre going on mat leave

The only thing I would never buy second hand is a car seat, like other people have said, thereās no way of knowing if itās been in an accident. (Oh and mattresses, like Latoya mentioned too!)
Saying that, I bought a really nice play mat the other day for Ā£15 that cost over Ā£100 new and realised when I got home that it stunk so bad and was full of dog hairš„“ I have since put it through the wash 3 times with fabric steriliser and itās absolutely fine but yeah!!x

I'd never get a car seat second hand, or a mattress. But clothes etc sure thing - and toys that can be washed/sterilised. Most of my son's stuff is second hand in terms of clothing! They grow so fast that I don't see the point of spending Ā£10 on one outfit when I can spend the same and get 5 š

Second hand for us has been an amazing way to save money, environmental impact and help other mums get a bit of money back! As others have said weāll be buying the car seat new (as per NHS guidance) but spending Ā£150 on an excellent quality pram vs Ā£900 new seems a no-brainer. Same for baby clothes, for something theyāre going to wear for such a short time, itās been great to buy bundles, save money and not have to worry about contributing to environmental wastage too

I got lots of 2nd hand clothes (really they were new, even with label, but bought off vinted for 40% of the original price). I think it's fine for everything except car seat and maybe pram for safety, and bed mattress, sheets, dummies for hygiene

I get a majority of our baby clothes and even my husband and I's clothes off of Vinted. I also have bought prams 2nd hand and cots/cribs. However when I get a crib, I dispose of the mattress and buy one new. I do the same with Moses baskets, I replace the mattress with a new one. But on Vinted I have bought brand new packs of baby vests and baby grows for £1 and got 5 new ones for that price

Car seat I would never get second hand, I always replace mattresses on Moses basket/cot/pram bassinet when Iāve got them second hand too just for cleanliness & safety. I get everything second hand pretty much!!
