My anxiety is absolutely spiralling. My 1 year old has a sickness bug and I’m really struggling with it. I’m petrified of catching it. I feel like a terrible mother because I’m struggling to comfort her because of my own anxiety. Does anyone out there also struggle with emetaphobia?

Yes! I do! It’s so awful and debilitating. Don’t feel bad, I’m sure you’re doing everything you can to comfort her and keep on top of your anxiety too. These moments are about balance and you can’t be the ‘perfect’ sickness Mum when your anxiety is through the roof, so firstly don’t worry about that. I usually chat to ChatGPT about it. It does actually help.
Do what you need to ensure you’re not spiralling anymore. Clean up with gloves and a mask if you need, no you’re not being dramatic, make sure you’re maintaining good hand hygiene. This always put me off having children, because what if they were sick 😞 this is a tricky age because they cant tell us when they’re going to be sick.
I have a 15 year old and he has always been a superstar and sorts himself out since quite young after learning of my phobia. I promise it gets easier. Hopefully you won’t catch it. And if you do, you’ll be ok. It’s temporary, usually only 12-24 hours.

I had it at Easter, caught from somewhere out of the house, so it caught me off guard as no one in the house had been poorly first, which wasn’t too bad actually as once my anxiety got up I was already in it. But no one else caught it from me. Fingers crossed for you. Feel free to message me if you need some support x
