Hiya! FTM here! I’m 38 weeks and I’ve just been sorting out my baby girls changing unit and I’m unsure what I should put in it.
Top drawer I’ve put: nappies, wipes, nappy bags, creams, colic medicine and Milton wipes and cleaning stuff for the nappy mat. I am going to get a thermometer but unsure what else I need medicine wise.
Second drawer I’ve put: muslins, sleeping swaddle bags and blankets.
Third drawer I’ve put: all bath time essentials such as towels, toys, shampoos and body washes, sponges. Unsure what lotions are best for after the bath?
Can you help me out with anything you put in your changing unit and best medicines, lotions, sleep time things etc?

So babies can’t really take any non-prescribed medicine until they’re 8 weeks and have calpol with their jabs. You could get that stocked if you want to be super prepared but not totally necessary.
If you’re having a c-section I’d recommend a nasal spray and snot sucker because they tend to be quite congested for a wee while. The Frida snot sucker is great and Sterimar baby nasal spray.
After bath lotions are totally personal preference. They don’t need to be washed with anything but water for the first few weeks as their skin is so delicate but if you get a very simple, fragrance free moisturiser, that should do the trick. Aveeno do some good ones. Mustela cleaning water is very good for cleaning baby before the cord comes off and also in between baths when they start having them.
Do you have nappy rash cream?

Absorbent pads! We’ve always used puppy training pads but you can get baby specific ones if you want to but they’re more expensive. Absolute game changer because they love to pee as soon as you take the nappy off and without a pad it goes straight up under their back and soaks their clothes 🙈
Baby aveeno is great for after the bath.
In terms of medication I always have children’s olbas oil, Vicks vaporub, an infrared forehead thermometer (another game changer the armpit ones are a nightmare if they won’t keep still, plus it connects to an app for easier tracking), calpol vapour plug, nasal saline spray/drops (some suitable from birth some aren’t) and paracetamol suppositories since my LO won’t take anything orally 🫠 most of those have age minimums though so I’m not sure if they’re all suitable from newborn!
