Holding breathe whilst crying & lips turning blue

Hey ladies

Has anyone’s 14 month old cried to the point they don’t get their breath and lips go blue it’s happened twice - I took her to the doctors today and they’ve told me if it happens again to call 999 and take her hospital
He also said it’s common

She’s been referred to paediatrics by GP

If you have any advice please let me know 🫶🏻

It’s usually harmless. When I worked with infants as a community RN I had a few clients that had this. You can’t do much aside from comfort them and lay them in their side. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/breath-holding-in-babies-and-children/ Blowing air in your baby’s face is recommended, safe, and doesn’t hurt. When you blow into their face they may startle and interrupt an involuntary “breath-holding spell”. It seems as if your GP is aware, I’d follow their advice and await to see your paeds

Oh yes! My son did this, from about 10 months. Absolutely terrifying. He was referred to cardiology for an echo but that was just a precaution and absolutely fine. They were blue breath holding spells. He’d go blue, floppy and then come to with a big gasp. It’d be seconds but feel like a lifetime. He grew out of it. We used to blow in his face (which sounds mean but worked) to break the “hold” and that usually stopped it escalating.

My son went through a phase of doing this he even held his breath for so long he passed out (I rang ambulance) they told me it’s behavioural but if he doesn’t take a breath in around 20 seconds to call 999, it’s absolutely terrifying but he has grown out of it now, best advise I have is ring ambulance anytime you’re worried and always try keep as calm as possible I found blowing into his mouth a nice strong blow of air helped and also temp change so I’d step outdoor or infront of the fridge as that usually made him catch his breath x

C section and hospital stay in uk

Hello!
Looking for stories from mothers who had c sections before.
I have my C section booked (due to 2 health risks).
What will it be like? How many nights did you have to stay in the hospital? What was the whole experience like?
My husband and i are trying to figure out if he should take days off from work. But i believe there is no need if me and the baby will be there for observation? He thinks the baby will be with me in the room all the time and he would have to help me with the baby. Where as i think the baby will be kept in the nursery (but i do hope he would actually stay with me in the room) and the nurses would be around to help when needed, therefore there wouldn't be a need for him to be with me at the hospital continuously. He also thinks he would have to stay with me there overnight 🙈
1st time staying in a hospital in uk too 🙈. This is all very new for us.

Feeling ill

I’m 4 weeks post partum, had an emergency c section. Currently pumping and supplementing with formula but I just keep feeling underlying feeling of flu like symptoms, aching bones kind of thing. It never manifests into anything but I always just feel a bit unwell. I’m wondering if it’s the expressing that’s making me feel like this !? 🤔😫 Anyone else feel like this?

Early scan

I only found out I was pregnant last Wednesday but it turns out I could be between 8-12 weeks gone 😬
I get to go for an early scan today so I’m super excited but I will also be on my own so I’m a bit nervous encase there’s anything wrong. Either way, I’m wishing myself luck 🍀

Pregnant again 🫣

Our little one has just turned three months and we’ve just found out we’re pregnant again (maybe around 4 weeks but haven’t had my period return since giving birth so difficult to say)

We also have a 3 year old. We’re obviously in shock but leaning towards keeping the baby so I was wondering if anybody has experience of such a close age gap?
