Is breastfeeding supposed to hurt this bad 😭?

I’m 4 weeks postpartum and I just got my baby to latch earlier this week (she has a lip tie that made latching hard the first few weeks). But everytime she latches it hurts my nipples so bad whenever I breastfeed, is this normal?? Is this something that will pass as I do it more? If so how long will it take until it doesn’t hurt anymore? The pain is lowkey unbearable 😭

Breastfeeding should not hurt! If it does, something is wrong. Best would be to contact a lactation specialist in order to help find the cause and maybe find the best latching position

I haven’t breastfed yet, but I’m planning to when baby comes in a couple of months.

At the NHS class I went to they said it should not hurt & they mentioned that they can come out and do a home visit to assess baby’s latch etc and help with tips if struggling. Definitely something I will be looking to lean on if I struggle when the time comes.

They also have a breastfeeding drop in session at my local library once a week (again ran by NHS). I would see if your NHS trust has something similar

It hurt me for around the first 12 weeks or so but he had a poor latch and late diagnoses tongue tie.
Only had one so not sure if that is normal or not. He would leave blisters and kept getting clogged ducts.
It no longer hurts now (11 months)
Unless he bites šŸ˜‚

I would go along to a best start group or reach out to your health visitor to see if there’s someone from the infant feeding team who can help.

It shouldn’t be hurting though.
Is it every feed or are some feeds okay?
I found when he latched more deeply it hurt less.
Is it a deep aching pain? A sharp pain?
It does get easier though! Breastfeeding can be so tough initially xx

For me it hurt for the first week and I think that was both of us getting used to the latch and also the midwife said the nipples toughen up a bit after the first week x

my baby also has a tongue tie! she’s also 4 weeks and she’s been having trouble latching but at first it hurt so badly to the point i was thinking about going strictly pumping but as time went on it got better and better. it’s definitely a learning process for both mama and baby ā¤ļø but my suggestion is definitely stock up on nipple butter and getting like ice packs and put them in the fridge versus the freezer, this is what helped me so hopefully it may help you. but i promise things will get better! ā¤ļø but also i will sometimes use bottles to help baby learn to latch and fixing her latch on the bottle and it helped teach her how to do it

Unwanted Cosleeping

Tell me if I’m justified in being mad about this.

I have always said I will never cosleep. My only reason is because I don’t like being touched while I sleep. I just don’t sleep well at all and wake up all night.

We have a 1 year old and a 2 year old that share a bedroom. I put my 1 year old down first and then my husband puts our 2 year old down. Well he started putting her down in our bed with him and he falls asleep and doesn’t transfer her. I don’t want to then transfer her in fear that she wakes up and then I have to stay up with her until she goes back to sleep.

She was also the best sleeper ever. I would put her down in her crib and say goodnight and she would go to sleep. My husband ruined it and would stand there and talk to her and rub her back so she no longer puts herself to sleep.

She also only sleeps on my side of the bed and she will pee. So now 3 times in the past month I have woken up in a puddle of pee.

Im furious. She shouldn’t be in our bed and he makes it very clear that he doesn’t care and if im unhappy about it then i should put her to bed. I know some will say thats the obvious answer but I literally do everything else when it comes to my kids. So I want him to help with bedtime. It’s not too much to ask.

Would you be upset?

Bedtime

Hi all,
My 6 month old goes down between 7/7:30pm and then wakes at around 5am for a feed and has a further 30/40 minute sleep before being up for the day but I’m just wondering what time is bedtime for your little ones? 7pm works well for us but a lot of people have said it’s too early etc for her age so wondering if I should push this to 8pm or even 9pm šŸ¤”

Thank you 🩷

Sleep regression? Naps? help!

Anyone else’s nearly 14 month old just a bag of beans 24/7
This child just never sleeps šŸ˜‚
So before we always used to get her down for bed about 7:30/8 but now she will not go sleep untill 10/10:30 no matter what we do but then she wakes up super early now as well usually between 6/7
We took her down to one nap a couple weeks ago as she was never sleepy for bedtime which seemed to worked for like a week but now it’s even worse
She usually has a 1 1/2 hour nap in the middle of the day, Just worrying she’s not getting enough sleep 😓
She has been walking for about a month and half now so not sure if it’s just regression from new skill as wellšŸ˜…

Mom guilt

For the last few weeks, I’ve been sleeping with my baby because it’s been almost impossible to transfer her to her crib. The minute she touches the mattress, she wakes up. I know she wants to be close to me because the second I pick her up, she falls right back asleep.

It’s been awful. I honestly haven’t been sleeping much at all. I haven’t been super scared of co-sleeping because I’m a light sleeper and can hear every little sound she makes. I also try my best to make the space as safe as possible by keeping blankets and pillows away from her.

But recently she’s started moving around more, and I’ve been finding her in some scary situations. Thank God I’ve always woken up before anything happened because I can hear her.

The real scare happened last night. I was so exhausted that I fell asleep without realizing it, and when I woke up, my arm was against her face. I felt so awful. I’ve literally been crying since 6 this morning. Then later, I found her near a pillow again because she’s moving around so much now.

I don’t want my baby ending up in a dangerous situation, but this has been so hard. It’s not like I can just choose not to sleep. I’ve tried over and over to put her in her crib, but she wakes up every time. Some nights it’s just a constant cycle of getting her to sleep, transferring her to the crib, her waking up, getting her back to sleep, transferring her again, and repeating it all over. I’m completely exhausted.

Pumping

Does anyone else hate breastfeeding and prefer pumping?

I find it so uncomfortable and stressful and find that pumping is a lot of effort but easier for me to manage. I have enough milk and don’t need to top up but just can’t get into feeding from the breast.

My baby was kept in hospital longer because he lost 12.5% of his birth weight and this was because I was giving colostrum and breast feeding in the first 5 days not realising that he wasn’t getting enough. This is also part of why I don’t feel comfortable breastfeeding - with pumping I can see exactly how much he is having and keep track.

Just feel like I’m alone feeling like this and although it’s so great that he is having breast milk it’s feels like I should be moving towards breast feeding but just don’t want to and feel guilty for that.
