4 yo does not understand- you got to close your eyes to get back to sleep at 4am… who has this problem?

My 4 yo has always been a poor sleeper and early riser. If something wakes him at 4am the sleep pressure is too low for him to sleep easily and only extreme daddy cuddles in a black room works 😅 but otherwise he just wont close his eyes to go back to sleep… im sure if i took him in the car seat he might fall asleep but im not doing that!

My friends 6 yo does this too! Who else? My 1 yo has NP going back to sleep if dad is next to him, i just saw him sit up and look around n say daddy 545 am as i secretly crawled out the room. Went back 15 min later and 1 yo is fast asleep again… i dont think my hubby even moved or woke up!

My 4 nearly 5yo understands perfectly & can & has done it on his own, he’s just decided he’d rather not do it anymore. My hubs puts him to bed in his room, then when he wakes up & crawls in bed with us it’s my turn to lay next to him. Even nuttier, mine doesn’t want anyone to touch him while he’s sleeping or “trying” to sleep, but he wants us there, so all we can do is lay next to him & either sleep & hope he sleeps or pretend to sleep so he goes to sleep. For a while there we’d hear his door alarm, goes off in our room, not his, but he wasn’t coming to our room, he’d go pout on the couch until we came to get him, it was so sad, we kept telling him just open the door & come in our bed, once he finally came in on his own he was so proud of himself that we didn’t have the heart to send him back, so now he puts Gordy on the bed, goes pee, crawls into bed & looks at me w/a “I did it” look.🤣

Sleep in the heat

How are we all getting our babies to sleep at night in this this heat? 2 disturbed nights so far and despite settling to bed earlier fine my baby woke around 30mins ago and still isn’t able to get back to sleep. He’s usually a really good sleeper and I fear we may never see a night of sleep again😢 I don’t really know what to do tonight with him. Honestly had enough of this stupidly hot weather and longing for some cold days and rain!

Kissing babies 😩

(For context my son is in the NICU!)

Yesterday my mother in law kissed our son 😩😩 I was so shocked as I thought everyone knew you don't kiss a new baby let alone one born 3 months early and is in the NICU 😭😭 I did say to her "op, I don't think you're allowed to do that" and she apologised but I didn't want to make a scene or make it awkward as it was just me and her there, but I think she only thinks the no kissing applies to the NICU and not for when we're home aswell 😩

I told my husband but (no offence) as a man he didn't even know about this rule!! I have told him before especially when explaining about the RSV vaccine in pregnancy but baby was born so early I didn't have the chance to get that vaccine 😩

Not sure what I want from this post other than to rant 😩

Been using white noise sound machine wrong

With both my kids, I always put the sound machine in their cots, and probably louder than I should have tbh. They've always been great sleepers, and my 2 year old still has it on now, although it's on the other side of the bedroom now.

I've just read that incorrect use, e.g. using within 2 meters of sleeping children, using continuously overnight, and using louder than 50 decimals can cause long-term hearing and/or developmental issues. Ive definitely done this all their lives and they're 2 years old and 6 months old. Obviously now I'm going to change how I use it, but has anyone else done this and not had any issues later on?

Nappy changes

We use atleast 15 nappies a day some days a few more I feel like I am buying them constantly lol. How is it for you?

I also found that Morrisons nutmeg brand can handle any blowout small or huge lol. Not been satisfied with Pampers or aldi’s brand this time.

Play mat/foam tiles worth it??

Baby is 5 months old and able to roll onto his tummy and has started trying to push off and almost army crawl. We have carpet everywhere so am considering getting those padded/foam/grippy mats to facilitate his movement better (either the tile ones or whole ones or not one at all). Is it worth it? how long did you make use of it for? if yes what’s the one you’d recommend and why?
