Had anyone held their child back a year in school? Did it benefit/help your child?

My daughter struggled with speech for a while between 1-3 years old. She starts school this year and I’ve thinking of ahead of maybe having her repeat kindergarten next year as well because I feel like she could really benefit repeating it. My boyfriend doesn’t seem to agree as much. I’m genuinely wondering if I’m making a mistake of thinking of taking that route? Should I wait and see how her first year goes?

I have read benefits of it helping some children. I also read the drawbacks of it. (Embarrassment later on. Being older than their peers. Increased chance of drop out later.) am I thinking ahead too much ?

We’re in a similar spot - we are choosing to keep my 3yo out of school for this year and he can go next year. He’s not ready the speech isn’t there (to other people outside his family). He’s home with me. Not sure if that’s an option if you don’t think she would be ready to move on or what

I think it’s not a decision you make before even giving her a chance. Does she receive special education services?
