I am 3 days pp and feeding is going well, my milk came in yesterday which is quicker than I expected. But… I don’t think I’m latching baby right because sometimes it’s super super painful. 😣 I do the nose to nipple wait for big open mouth and then bring baby to breast so I feel like I’m doing everything I’ve been told to but it’s just super painful. The midwife yesterday said it looked pretty good but maybe my bad ones have hurt my nipples so just going to take a while to feel better. I just don’t know what to do - at night it’s just too much. Any tips and tricks would be amazing!

The first like 6 weeks are SOOO hurtful, truly no tips or tricks will make the pain go away. Your nipples are adjusting and baby is learning how to latch. It genuinely just gets better with time. Few things I did, feed baby before he was starving, just at the 2 hour mark, he was calmer and more interested in latching, before feeding hand express some milk and rub it around your nipple so is wet (lubricated), use a nipple cream and silverette cups in between feed, this saved my nipples. And lastly if you’re pumping as well you can lubricate that helps tons.

I think it's best to differentiate between pain and a tugging sensation. Are you sore, cracked or bleeding? From my experience this time please don't ignore it, I did and it's damaged my nipples so bad I've actually ended my feeding journey at 15 days. I fed my last for 2 years after getting latch fixed via a lactation consultant. This time no amount of support has helped me get through all the challenges. Main thing is to bring baby to the nipple (not nipple to baby) lean back and let gravity do a lot of it, don't hunch over. Let babies head bob freely. Chin should be indenting the breast tissue. Are you doing any particular positions?
