So, I notice 🥜 mums saying things like, "Breastfeeding is great" and "Two under two is easy."
This can be quite dismissive of others' experiences because it suggests that it’s a universal truth and disregards those who have a harder time.
It feels more tactile to say, "I found breastfeeding great..." or "I found two under two easy..." while knowing that’s not everyone’s experience.
Do you think this nuance of language matters, or is it just pedantry?

Definitely matters. When giving my opinion on something I always try to use words like "I think that..." "in my opinion" "I have found" to try and keep it neutral.

I think language matters of course, but for all our own mental sakes we must also let some roll off our backs because everyone is speaking from their own experience, and all of us have our own unique conditions we’re living through. We can’t expect everyone to provide disclaimers and caveats or even alter language to not sound generalized on just a silly app ya know? Unless something evokes like harmful stereotypes or something

I think different conversations and situations call for differing levels of nuance.
I also think people take shit too seriously, or too personally on here when most the time people are only speaking for their own selves.

Usually if someone makes a comment like that, I assume they are talking about themselves and aren’t speaking for everyone or attempting to minimize someone else’s experience

You can word things as perfectly as you could, and you would STILL manage to offend someone .

I think people want to be catered to too much. People typically center themselves in their statement so if you take offense you’re probably just too sensitive
What is super interesting it’s the majority of people voted that it matters but the commenters are more on the side of it doesn’t matter. 🤔
