Help needed

Hello mummas,

So I've just had an emergency c section on Sunday.

It wasn't what I wanted but I had no other choice. My body is in bits, all I want to do is be with baby but I physically can't do anything other than breast feed her 😩.

What did you ladies do to speed up recovery??

Honestly, tomorrow will be worse (for some reason 3rd day was worse for me and so many others) but it’ll start getting so much better by Thursday šŸ’œ

It’s only temporary momma, it hurts like a bitch physically mentally and emotionally but take the few days to do as little as possible and the rest is plain sailing 🄰

Move around gently and try not to lie down too much
Keep on top of painkillers even if you feel like you don’t need them
Chew chewing gum to help with trapped wind
Wash your scar with plain water daily and keep it dry afterwards

Do as little as possible and don’t over do it, it does get better after a week for me. I had an unplanned c-section nearly 2 weeks ago

Don’t sit around . Make sure you keep moving but listen to your body and don’t over do it .
Make sure you’re staying ontop of pain meds , I found switching between paracetamol & ibuprofen so I was taking something every 3 hours worked (if the hospitals given you anything make use of that aswell!)
Use some form of laxative even if you feel you don’t need to.
Make sure you’re drinking plenty.

Anything peppermint, chewing chewing gum & hot drinks help with trapped wind

Be kind to yourself! I’ve had two C-sections (one emergency one planned) and the first days are rough but it does get better

Are you still in hospital - if so, make sure to stay on top of those pain meds. If not, they should give you pain meds on discharge. Move around but don’t overdo it. Most importantly, you do need to let your body rest.

I also had an emergency c section, but ended up in hospital for 5 days - so I made sure to make the most of any help.

It does get better. You’ve got this mumma ā™„ļø

Feeling really disheartened

I'm 38+3 and just had my last midwife appointment (planned C-section next week), but it wasn't my usual midwife it was her holiday cover, and I just felt like she was really unapproachable and not particularly friendly. I had loads of questions I wanted to ask but just didn't feel comfortable asking her and she barely asked me any questions so it didn't really open up any communication channel.

She was quite rough when feeling for baby and has been the only midwife to hurt me during this process, and she didn't even tell me how engaged baby was or anything. Does anyone know how long it takes for Badger to update as hoping to see on there?

The student midwife also said my urine was showing traces of nitrates and asked if she should send it off, and because the lady before also had nitrates she decided it was the sticks and no need to send it off. I had a Google after and see it's linked to UTI's, but she didn't even ask me any follow up questions like if it was uncomfortable peeing (which it is, but I assumed was linked to baby position).

I've honestly just left that appointment so sad and disappointed. One of the things I wanted to discuss was possible prenatal depression but I just couldn't bring myself to talk about it with her, and I won't see my normal midwife until after I've had the baby and that will likely be at my house with my husband and baby there, so it probably won't be something I can just bring up then either.

Sorry for the essay, just needed to get my feelings out

Judgement about elected C-section

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant with my second and have chosen to have an elected C-section.

I had a really traumatic vaginal birth with my first (pretty sure my husband has PTSD from it) and a couple of years after that I had a stem cell transplant for a rare blood disease. I have been told I don't medically need one but my midwife is very supportive and says I can basically have the birth I want.

Everyone I tell this to though just keeps asking why, if you don't need one then why and then bringing up the current UK C-section statistics. It's driving me mad and I feel so judged.

Question…

Is naming a baby Amber cruel given she might come out with a shade of ginger hair? My son is strawberry blonde like I was as a child and mine darkened to auburn.

It’s our top pick but someone said this to me and I can’t shake it!

20 week scan

I’ve just had my 20 week scan was in there for over an hour and have had another scan rearranged for 2 weeks as there were parts of baby he couldn’t see. However he could see his tummy which was measuring 23w5 days when I’m 20w 1day. He said this might mean I have gestational diabetes. Has anyone else who got diagnosed with g diabetes been told baby’s belly was big at 20 week scan?
