I know the NHS recommendation is 6 months, but I’m aware you can technically wean from 4 months/ 17 weeks. My baby is currently 5 months and I was considering trying a baby porridge mixed with her normal milk to make it runnier, before trying actual solids at 6 months, like carrot etc. She can hold her head up great, and sit up in the high chair, bouncers etc ok but at times will flop/ tilt her head forward and I’m not sure if this means she’s not ready or not? She also can’t sit up on her own yet outside of high chair/ container

We are early weaning as advised by my gp due to really bad reflux and low bottle volume. We've been doing it for around a week now, my little girl can't quote sit up yet but is fine in the highchair we have started on purees, just a table spoon a day of veggies, sweet potato etc! Baby porridge and rice pudding has 0 nutritional value and my gp advised us to go for other things instead

My little boy is 4 months old and has great head control and core strength. We tried him with baby rice and he wasn't really impressed 😂 going to purée some carrots tomorrow and try them x

I'm literally in the same boat at the minute. I feel like I hear different things from different sources and I don't know what is right!

Weaning early has actually been proven to lower risks of allergies, the uk health have now agreed to this but stated they won’t change regulation till next year
We started singular veg purées on our little man’s 4th month birthday and he’s been doing amazingly! No coughing or anything and definitely interested in the different flavours
Recommendations are just that… advice given to every child even though none are the same 🙃
All this being said he was full term, 10 pound at birth, has been sitting assisted for over a month and great neck control
Only you will know if your little one is ready but don’t let others tell you you don’t know best x

My 19 week old is the exact same and has been haing alk sorts for around 3/4 weeks now. She loves her food, one of her favourites is chicken sausage, sweet potato, carrots and brocollie blended with some super runny gravy! She hates baby rice and won't ear it and she loves mini milk ice lollies, she eats one full meal a day now instead of a bottle and ahe is thriving!❤️

I would opt for purees over porridges and rice pudding still. We don't give her finger foods yet, just puree pouches! They're a lot better for them, no lumps etc but you can still water down with formula if you wish. She can hold her head so I would maybe wait until she has a bit more head strength on her as you don't want her head falling forwards as she's got food in her mouth! We did start with ours in a slightly reclined baby chair we had before we bought a high chair. Maybe that could curve the head issue?
