I want to start by saying I’ve been diagnosed with post Partum depression and am currently working with a psychologist.
As of late my partner (23m) has started and new job and has settled into it. I have been struggling since Bub was about a month old with sleeping because Bub simply won’t sleep any longer than 40 minutes at a time. This has then caused extreme sleep deprivation to the point I was having auditory and visual hallucinations. I’ve told my partner this as well as multiple health professionals and we’ve made a plan to help me get a chance to sleep. It has been told to him multiple times the urgency and need for me to get some decent sleep. This has also affected my epilepsy and has required a medication increase as well.
Fast forward to today we agreed he would take the night shift and I would sleep in a different room. As I was pumping bub started scream crying and I had to go physically wake up my partner to bub his bottle. I walk away to finish the pump and start washing the baby bottles then he proceeds to get frustrated and yells and swears at Bub. I get the frustration but keep in mind this man gets at least a good 6 hours of sleep a night. There is no reason for him to be frustrated at 9pm. He was drinking tonight so I’m thinking maybe it was that but I’m getting annoyed. Last night I tried waking him up to help me and move Bub into his cot (we sometimes co sleep) and I was met with comments of “I’m comfy”, “he’s fine” and “I’m trying to sleep”. Mind you he is the one that is completely against co sleeping. When I woke up this morning he was then obviously frustrated at me for co sleeping when I had asked him for help.
Just seems like every plan we make to help me get some sleep seems to always fail and go backwards because I can’t rely or trust him. After what happened tonight with him screaming for 5 minutes right into his ear I don’t think I can trust him with Bub for the night shift anymore. I feel guilty for even trusting him to begin with because I don’t know how often he’s been crying or screaming through the night and ignored.
At a loss for ideas or what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
