Incentivizing good ppl to foster/adopt
We had a great, deep, educational, and moving conversation about fostering/ adopting and the struggles associated with it and how we can come together to create the change we would like to see.
I believe that although we would be doing this because it’s on our hearts, our time is precious and if we come together it should be in the form of a Non-profit so that we could all benefit.

Based on our convo it seems like we were leaning toward supporting ordinary families who want to help but don’t know where to start. There are already organizations that recruit foster parents, but there are still gaps.
Ideas discussed:
Raising awareness and creating educational programs and resources for churches, etc, to help facilitate more adoptions.
Other ideas to consider:
Foster Family Academy – classes about trauma, attachment, and navigating the system.
Emergency Placement Team – volunteers who deliver cribs, car seats, clothing, diapers, and meals within hours of a child entering a home.
Mentorship Program – pair first-time foster parents with experienced ones.
Date Night & Respite Program – help prevent foster parent burnout.
Family Fun Events – free zoo trips, museums, holiday parties, and summer outings.
Community Closet – clothing, school supplies, baby gear, and furniture.
Scholarships for families adopting children with special needs.
The nonprofit could receive funding from:
State or federal grants
Private foundations
Corporate sponsorships
Individual donations
Fundraising events
Monthly supporters
In some cases, contracts with DCFS or private child welfare agencies
You could then work for the organization as:
Executive Director (CEO)
Program Director
Development/Fundraising Director
Education Director
Etc
A sustainable model
One thing many successful nonprofits do is diversify revenue so they aren’t dependent on a single grant. For example:
40% grants
25% recurring donors
20% corporate sponsors
10% fundraising events
5% merchandise or educational workshops
That makes it easier to weather funding changes.
Thoughts needing further development:
Developing the mission and vision
Identifying gaps in the current foster/adoption system
Creating programs that would make the biggest impact
Learning how nonprofit funding and grants work
Building a sustainable budget and salary structure
Branding, marketing, and social media outreach
Eventually creating a business plan and timeline for launching
