Hi guy, wanting some help/advice. I have a 12 month old son. He hasn’t such much yet only dada and up but with no intention/context. He hasn’t clapped/pointed yet. He does understand so much, waves, high fives and shakes hand. Any advice or if someone related to this before? Thank you so much. Worried mom here.

Are you doing exercises with him to where he can learn these things. My little guy doesn't talk but he does do a lot of babbling (which is normal) he does a lot of pointing or clapping but he only dies that because he learned by copying us. My husband says he has said things to him before and so has my mom. He is also supposed to know animal noises. So he doesn't do a lot of that but you need to teach him these things. He needs to kearn. For reference my guy is 19 months.
Try to do some teaching to your little guy. See how he will react to it.

Some kids are ready to try talking right away, some are hesitant to speak until they feel confident they can do it well. My oldest barely said anything until he was past 2 and then statted with sentences, while my youngest has been chatty since the beginning and already has 5 clear words by a year. Keep talking to him and encourage other people to talk with him, but otherwise I wouldn't worry too much yet.

sign language!!! its never too late to start and i find babies catch on quick if you start with the signs about food lol. (like "more" "eat" "please" cause its like a treat. i started around 9m and my 14m old can say "more, eat, please, thank you, all done" and he understands a lot more than he can say

I wouldn’t be worried. My twins are 14 months old and are about the same as your son. We just did a 12 month milestone exam with our state nurse. Everything is fine.
This is what the nurse checked for language and social skills:
1) does your child wave “bye bye” or “hello?”
2) does he play games with you, like patty cake?
3) does he under “no” (pause briefly or stops when you say it)?
4) does he call a parent “mama” or “dada” or another special name?
If you still have concerns, reach out to his doctor.

Okay thank you, I’ll see what the health visitor says next week. Thank you once again ❤️
