Induction due to over 95th percentile baby

I’ve just had my routine 36 week scan and have been told baby is measuring large. I’ve been told I need an induction. This wasn’t my plan and I really don’t want to be induced, but they have scared me with the risks of waiting (with no stats or evidence). I’ve been told no extra scan to check on baby in a couple of weeks either. I’m wondering if I should get a 2nd opinion or a private scan in a couple of weeks. I’ve heard these scans are very inaccurate, so really feel confused what to do. For ref I was hoping for a spontaneous water birth with just gas and air. Of course I know things don’t always go to plan, but this really is far from what I wanted and imagined. Is anyone else going through this or does anyone have experience or advice? Thanks!

Have they said when you would need to be induced? Have a private scan for a second opinion if you really don’t want to be induced but obviously do what’s best for you and baby! Xx

I had a growth scan a few days ago with baby measuring large. They said scans arent 100% accurate so i am going back in 2 weeks ish to be scanned again. Definitely speak to them about your options and if there is a significant risk to waiting x

I have been told the same thing, im 34 weeks and he's measuring 39 apparently, they said the same, i need to go back in 2 weeks for another scan and go from there, i wouldn't have another induction as it didn't go well for me the first time and ended in emergency c-section after 3 days of labour, they won't let me go past 39 weeks so they said they would have to do a planned c-section if I don't want an induction x

As Melissa's article will state....big babies are not a need for induction (in absence of medical conditions being the cause).

Thanks everyone. That’s really helpful. They have said induced at 40 weeks, but to be honest they gave me no stats, no info etc. so feel really uninformed! They said they won’t re-scan me as no point, but surely peace of mind if I want one is a reason! If not i think I’ll get a private one in 2 weeks to see where I’m at. Don’t know how they can expect someone to make a decision without much info!

Induction also increases the risk of shoulder dystocia 🙃 the exact thing they're concerned about with bigger babies🙃

I wouldn't rely on a private scan to ease your concerns because they are notoriously inaccurate and the further along you get the further wrong they can estimate baby's weight!

The risk that's often quoted is shoulder dystocia, but half of all babies with shoulder dystocia (in the biggest study looking into this) were NOT large.

Things like induction, continuous monitoring that keeps you on your back, can increase the risk of dystocia though.

You can simply decline the induction 😊

I'm sorry but that is absolutely ridiculous. A whole month early and they're TELLING YOU that you NEED an induction???? And then won't scan you again closer either ?? Sounds like you need new professional prenatal care, because that's all careless as hell.

August baby - anyone having signs of labour approaching? 🤞

I’m 37+3 and will be induced at 39 weeks. Baby is wriggling and pushing against my cervix regularly. I’ve had some mild cramping last night and changes to digestion but that’s about it - I’m definitely in my “freeze mode” waiting for anything to happen 🙈🙈

I've just spent 2.5 hours scrubbing/reorganising our bedroom and ensuite. Anyone would think I'm giving birth to Kim or Aggy the way my brain thinks this baby is going to judge me 😂😂

How long did you wait to take your baby out?

Where I'm from, babies don't usually go out until much later. Personally, I'm waiting until he's three months old to take him out in public.

Give main birthday cake out?

At parties do you expect the main cake to be given out in party bags or to be eaten there?
Ive been to quit a few party's now and after the child blows out the candles the cake is put away and taken home and then other cakes given out or none!
My daughters 5th birthday is coming up and im planning on taking home and having cupcakes made for children to take home.
My thoughts are having cakes professionally made are very expensive and its doubtful the children are going to appreciate the expensive cake, which im guessing why others did this!

So my husband is German and we are having twin boys. We'd like to honour the German side of them with German middle names but are struggling to find ones that aren't so harsh sounding. There are some we like, but know people well who have them and I don't want to name them the same as/after people (Sebastian/Nils/Mats all love and all out). Babies last name

Hey ladies, if your partner is not involved in your pregnancy would you still give your baby his last name? This would be my bds first child but he’s a crazy person therefore I don’t want him involved in anything. I’m thinking I want to give my son my last name. I’m sure it will spark a bit of chaos being that my bds father passed so they feel some kind of connection to the last name but I just feel like why should my child have your last name when I’m doing all the work?
