They should both respect each other and cater to each other. If the balance is off, then it’s not a good situation for anyone

Respect should be earned, yes. But not in an authoritative manner. More like, “oh, he did this so I have respect for him because that was brave!”. But basic decency & kindness toward others should be a given.

I think authoritative respect is appropriate in a workplace environment. Not in a home or relationship. If the man is standing over the woman to make her feel smaller then he’s a POS
