My soon-to-be ex-husband is a horrible person and is asking for me to waive child support. Everyone and their mother says I need to ask for the standard 17%. I honestly don’t think that’s right because he doesn’t make much more than me and if the goal is for our child to have equal standards of living at both households then it wouldn’t be equal at all. My ex wouldn’t be able to afford rent. The only way I can is because I don’t have student loans and my dad paid for my car/auto insurance. Even though my ex has emotionally abused me and continues to do so I believe that if his life gets better then the better our child’s life will be. His life will get better if he can provide a home for his time with our son. I actually don’t understand why people are saying I shouldn’t care if he goes bankrupt. Child support isn’t about revenge. He already lost at life by me dumping him. I left him for a reason and I’m so happy about that and my life is already so much better without him. Plus he pays half for everything anyway. Literally 50/50 plus we care for him the equal amount of time a week. It doesn’t make him any less of an abuser towards the mother of his child but I still have a problem with taking money that he doesn’t have. So am I really that crazy?

No, I dont blame you. 50/50 is best. Shared time, split everything else! If something changes and he refuses to help, then yes get child support. You're not wrong. In fact, I think youre pretty great to that!

I think as long as he is doing his part you shouldn’t have to go after him for child support. How he treats you vs how he treats your child is a totally different story. But you do what you think is right.

From one mom to another. Both of my first two baby daddy’s had literally nothing when I left them. I worked and supported us in both relationships. Everyone told me to claim child support and to take both to court for custody. But I knew they didn’t have the capability to do it. They both were mentally abusive and manipulated me.
The first one got worse on his own. And the second has done amazing in life. We even coparent fine. Both never fought for custody but they also never asked to see their kid. They have an open line of communication with their kids.
So if you don’t think its going to nip you in the but then don’t file for the support.

If he is providing willingly for his kids, he has the kids about equal time, and you don’t need the money then you don’t have to ask for child support. Now I would find out if you waive child support now. Can you change that if he suddenly stops helping with the kids.
