First prenatal lab tests at 12 weeks — is this normal or should I switch OB-GYNs?

Hi ladies! Need some advice from your experience.
I’m currently almost 7 weeks pregnant (6w5d). I had an ultrasound today, and thank God, we heard a strong heartbeat and everything looks good!
However, I’m really concerned about one thing: my OB-GYN hasn't ordered ANY blood or urine tests yet. He told me to come back in 5 weeks (which will be around 12 weeks) and said they’ll do the first labs then, claiming there’s no point in doing them earlier.
Is this normal practice? From what I know, standard prenatal panels (blood work, iron, thyroid, urine culture, etc.) are usually done around 8–10 weeks to catch any issues early. Waiting until almost the end of the first trimester feels a bit unsafe to me.
When did you get your first lab work done? Would you recommend switching doctors in this situation?
Thanks so much for sharing!

Are gender scans worth the money

I think £75 is a lot of money to find out the gender before the hospital appointment but when you find out through the hospital it’s a annoying they can’t write it down just in case they get it wrong

Do you think it’s worth finding out?

Pregnant after emergency c section

We just found out we are pregnant and I am so so happy! We did have an emergency c section after a failed induction in Sept of 2025.

All in all my recovery was good I was running and lifting by 12 weeks and I have healed one thing I have not anticipated is the mental aspect of the c section. I am worrying at night now about it.

How did you handle the pregnancy after an emergency c section?

What was your elective section experience

I'm honestly terrified of going overdue! I don't want an induction or a c section! But 25% of inductions end in section so I would rather bypass all that pain...

Can you share your stories? How was baby and how was your recovery?

Keep trying or leave it

When pregnant with my now 10 month old a friend of mine was pregnant but 3 months behind me . She ended up having a late miscarriage or I’m not sure is it classified as stillborn . She was approx 21 weeks ( anatomy scan ) and had announced it to everyone . We don’t live too close so sympathising was though a brief phone call and messages . Since this she has not connected with me . It’s been over a year . I have messaged her 4-5 times since her miscarriage and I’ve left space between the messages and left them open to reply to or let her know she can take more time . However she either likes the message ( just once ) or reads and ignores it . I sent one last week which was left on read . I just tell her how much I miss her and that she’s always on my mind . I never mention my baby . Do I just leave it at this point . I know it was a difficult time for her and she went ghost for awhile . We had been excited to raise babies close in age . Any advice ? She was a good friend not a best friend but I would see her a few times a year and text often and we were both married which is something not many of my other friends related to .
