I know I always see Mums saying that they are leaving it up to the teachers for when their little starts school. However, are there any Mums teaching reading before that instead? We have been teaching our toddler words here and there in his favorite books and will do more as he gets older. We just want to give him the best start and also it is easier for us to teach him where we can offer one on one... Which I know can be difficult in school, when there is a class full of children

It's best not to because if you start teaching by one method, but the school uses a different method (eg Jolly phonics) it will be confusing for kiddo
It's best to support them to learn whilst they are in school.
But, also follow their lead. Some kids basically teach themselves to read before even starting school. You can start teaching letter sounds if you want.

Definitely teach them the alphabet and phonics sounds but you dont want them to get bored as they know too much already. My youngest is going into reception in September, she knows and recognises some words in a book but I dont want to teach her too much as she will get bored and distracted, plus her older sister reads with her also
