Driving after c section

You need to check with your insurer and follow what your doctor has said. My Dr and midwife told me 6 weeks, whilst my insurer didn't have a specific time for c sections, they advised if I were to have an accident and make a claim, they'd be in there right legally to ask and obtain my medical information and if it had been documented as 6 weeks and I'd had an accident in that time, I would not have been covered. As a result I had to wait for the whole 6 weeks. I think after 4 weeks I would have been fine, but other women may have different experiences of recovery, and I know my friend says she doesn't think she could have done an emergency stop in the 6 weeks recovery period.

I drove after 5 weeks. They say not before 6 weeks but as long as you feel ok and dont overdo it you should be fine. The thing I struggled with was lifting the car seat in and out the car rather than the actual driving.

I think for me it was within a week or two whatever the ob recommended

It depends on the insurance company. Mine said that as long as I could do an emergency stop, I was ok but I waited until 6 weeks just incase. I did have an autumn baby so it was quite easy staying local or at home during those weeks

My third c section I drove at 2 weeks. My doctor said if you can stomp on the gas pedal without pain then you can drive.

I drove at 2 weeks. Couldn't cope with not driving

My midwife said until you’re comfortable to emergency stop without pain. Which they always is around 6 weeks, also check with your insurance. I did little trips to coffee shops after 3 weeks and built up confidence the stronger I felt xx

My Dr told me six weeks as standard, you have to be able to twist and do an emergency break comfortably. It was hell for me as I live half way up a steep hill and was told I couldn't push a pushchair up or down hills either for those six weeks so I became a bit of a prisoner in my own home! It's really tough but equally you really need to recover as best you can do so only do what you think your body can handle ❤️
