Do you think it’s weird that adults are so into their own birthdays? Like full weekends out of it, can’t do anything else because it’s their birthday month. I get like milestones birthdays (18,21,30 & 50.) but it’s not that special, right?

Only asking because my friend of 15+ years blew off my baby shower because it was her birthday weekend, not even the actual day. Her response was “I’m a Leo”

I try to celebrate my birthday, usually just a meal and drinks apart from milestone birthdays, but I wouldn't miss a friend's birthday shower because it fell on the same day/weekend! Sorry they did that.

Ahahahahah as a fellow Leo, I get it 😂 no but jokes aside, I think everyone should celebrate their birthday, you’ve lived another year of no doubt good and hard times, aging is a privilege and it should be celebrated. That being said, there should be a balance between other people’s plans that coincide with their birthday weekend, and doing things to celebrate themselves. If it was my birthday weekend and a friend planned their baby shower on the same day, I would try and go, out of love for my friend, but if it wasn’t feasible due to location, time, having prepaid for things, then I would apologise I couldn’t make it and send a gift/arrange another time to see them.

Not weird. More people should.

The only thing that's weird is that she's supposed to be your friend and blew off your baby shower. Unless she had non-refundable plans that couldn't be put off and told you that in advance, I wouldn't be referring to her as a real friend 🤷🏽‍♀️ imo

Not something I would do. But I usually put others before myself anyway

I usually go on a hike that I’ve been wanting to do and get dinner somewhere and that’s it. This year it’s a pool party cause my parents have a pool now. I’ll be 28!

So, if nothing else was going on then I dont see an issue celebrating for the weekend. The issue is missing your baby shower and youre supposed to be friends.

Me ans my husband used to do like a mini weekend away for our birthdays, buts its more difficult now with young kids. My parents still do stuff for their birthdays though. But again, not if theres something big for someone close to them.

Pulling to stand

My 6.5 month old has been pulling to stand the past week or two. I have read a lot that babies this young really shouldn’t be standing because of the position
makes them hurt their joints, but we are not forcing him in this position. He’s doing it himself just wondering if anybody has experienced this with their babies if you have seen it affecting them? Should I be stopping him when he does it or encourage him to do it?

Midwives just showing up at door

Hi all,

I've just gave birth 10 days ago and had my day 5 appointment to take off my dressing. My baby also got weighed at this appointment and had lost 8grams. Guidance states that if it's more than 8 to 10% then they write up a plan to help with weight. I was supposed to go back for anotjer weigh in but this wasn't mandatory. Anyway today someone showed up at my door to do a weigh in. No phone call or morning before hand. Is this the norm where midwives just randomly show up?

Advice

Im 38 weeks +2 pregnant, and for the past week I've suffered with tremendous pelvic girdle pain. It's become so bad that I can hardly walk without being in agony, and I'm not sleeping because of it.

I have tried all the usual recommendations, but nothing at all is easing it.

I've had some tightening across the bump all week, and baby seems to be moving very vigorously now too, which comes with the sharp crotch pain. No other signs really. I am not really sure whether to phone triage today to get advice.

Obviously, I'm due soon, so referral to physio is Obviously not an option. Do I just need to ride this out somehow? Or could I maybe get some medication to help elevate the pain?

Last night I also noticed my hands and feet getting hot.

I've contacted my midwife for advice and waiting on a response. Any advice would be very welcome as a FT mum to be.

Thank you
