First time pregnancy - low risk. Have had scans at 12 and 20 weeks but see everyone talking about having growth scans booked in. Not been mentioned to me at all so just wondering if everyone has these or if it’s just if you’re higher risk? Seems mad i could go from 20 weeks to giving birth with no other scans!

Growth scans are usually booked in if your baby measures small or big. For me I am having growth scans due to having reduced movements and a cord blood flow restriction. I wouldn’t worry too much about it as you typically get the 2 nhs scans through a low risk pregnancy

I don’t have any growth scans booked in, I am low risk and this is my third pregnancy. I had to go for an extra scan with my second at around 36/37 weeks as they thought he was maybe breech but that’s about the only time I got an extra nhs scan, other than that it’s just private ones if you want to see them again! Which is very disappointing and you’re right is crazy that you can potentially go 20 weeks without anymore scans

I had a growth scan because my baby is on the smaller side, it’s just to make sure that even though she’s small she’s still growing at a good rate. A growth scan will only really be offered if your midwife or medical team feels they need to monitor baby in anyway

Usually you get your bump measured from 28 weeks onwards and if you are measuring small/big you will be sent for growth scans. I did with my first, and haven’t had to this time round.
I think if you are high risk you will get sent too x

I had an extra growth scan with my daughter as her head measured small at the 20 weeks scan but was fine 4 weeks later so had no further planned growth scans as I was low risk. This time I’m high risk as I developed pre-eclampsia at the end of my last pregnancy so I have growth scans planned every 2-4 weeks from 32 weeks. My husband also has a congenital heart condition so get a couple of extra heart scans as baby is higher risk for a heart problem.
