First-Time C-Section Mama Needing Advice

Hey mamas! 🤍 I’m a first-time mom, and I’m having a C-section in a few weeks. I’m starting to get a little nervous and would love to hear about your experiences!

The part I’m honestly the most scared of is getting the spinal. 😭 How bad was the numbing shot and the needle? Was it as painful or scary as you expected? Any tips that helped you stay calm during that part?

Also, what are some must-have things you packed in your hospital bag for yourself after your C-section? Anything that made your recovery or hospital stay so much easier? I want to make sure I’m not forgetting any essentials.

I’d love to hear any advice, things you wish you knew beforehand, or positive C-section stories. Thank you so much! 🩷

i ended up developing a needle phobia during pregnancy and was terrified of needing an epidural. they just get you to take a deep breath and before i knew it the numbing injection was done, then the rest of it was absolutely fine for me. i can’t speak for having things in your hospital bag as i had an emergency section but i did by maternity knickers that were a godsend as they put no pressure on the wound what so ever. i would just recommend lots of loose clothing! best of luck xxx

Some type of waist compression belt is the best thing that helped during healing. It makes you feel secure when you sit up or walk. You will need a support person to help with a lot of basic tasks, I couldn’t even bend to tie my shoes for 3 weeks and I couldn’t safely drive till like 2 months later. Something to help you sit up during the night would be so helpful. After my c section when my baby would cry at night it would take me at least five minutes to be able to sit up. The spinal just feels like uncomfy pressure for a few seconds and was the least painful thing in the whole process. The discomfort is so temporary and I don’t even remember much of it anymore because the excitement of the baby overshadowed everything

I had an emergency c section 2 weeks ago. I had a spinal not epidural since they had to get in quick. The needing was nothing! I didn’t see it or anything, I would say comparable to a numbing shot at the dentist. The most surprising part for me was how abrasive the stick for the iodine was 😂 (not bad either). I had NOTHING prepped and made out okay. I was up and walking that evening and home the next day. If you are planning adult diapers make sure to get unscented, the scent irritates my incision so I just toss a barrier in there for comfort. My advice don’t be a dummy like me and forget you were just cut open last week and rip your stitches.

I feel silly but when ppl offer help (even passing you water that is 3 inches from your hand) accept it- not worth straining and ripping a stitch.

You got this!!!!

My c section was a few years ago now but I remember having a great team in theatre they fully supported and helped me through the whole thing. The c section was the best part for me, what an experince ❤️ was the rest of my pregnancy that was horrendous. I had a great nurse who helped me to get in the correct position for the spinal and to help me with my breathing as it was being done it took a few mins but was honestly not bad thanks to them. Numbing shot was nothing. And im not a fan of needles but obviously had to get used to them being pregnant. I did not see the needle for the spinal at all which was prob best.
What kept me calm and got me through was telling myself I would be meeting my son that day and I do suffer with anxiety quite badly, I think I surprised everyone especially my mum lol the best advice I was given by my sister was to have a blanket or towel in the car your gonna need it for the ride home when you leave to go between you and the seat belt, roll it up to your liking and comfort.

TMI After Baby no.2

This is embarrassing but have any other mammas after 2nd baby had anything similar to this?

Basically since having my second baby I cannot wear any light coloured underwear because I end up with 💩 stains on them. Even if I’ve not gone no.2 that day or whether I’ve thoroughly wiped after it seems like no matter what I do I end up with small stains on my undies. It’s not like I’ve pooped myself or anything but it’s as if I’ve not wiped properly even when I know I have/ haven’t even pooped.

This has never happened to me before and it’s so embarrassing trying to be intimate or feel comfortable in myself.

Should I maybe go to Drs?

I’m 8 months pp and it’s been happening since I gave birth for reference.

Pushing with epidural

I’m considering if I will have or not an epidural in my labour, but I’ve heard so many mixed info of pushing phase with it. Could those who had an epidural during labour tell me how it went? Even if your epidural was running out or given just before pushing.

TIA

Prodromal/false labour

Has anyone else experienced this? I swear i was going into labour yesterday, intense back pains, contractions/tightenings then nothing and the pain stopped, slept last night. No losing my mucous plug or waters breaking then the same again today around 10am.
