I have been unemployed for a long time despite applying for jobs, attending interviews, and trying to rebuild my career after years spent caring for my daughter and supporting my family. Being financially dependent on my husband has left me feeling trapped and powerless.
At home, things have been difficult. My husband, Hitesh, often becomes angry, dismissive, or emotionally distant. There are times when he refuses to speak to me for hours, stays in a separate room, ignores me, and does not acknowledge how much I am struggling. I feel like my concerns are brushed aside rather than discussed.
I am raising a young child while dealing with unemployment, financial dependence, and ongoing stress in my marriage. The combination of joblessness, lack of independence, and feeling unsupported at home has affected my confidence, mental wellbeing, and sense of self-worth.
I am looking to hear from people who have experienced similar situations and understand what it is like to feel stuck between wanting independence and having limited options.
