Those with babies in nursery. How often are they offered a walk or trip out whilst in nursery please? When my husband and I were choosing a nursery for us it was important they offered outings or walks as we don’t like the idea of our son indoors all the time. We were told they do however he’s been there 9 weeks and not gone out once. The 2 days he isn’t in they’re going out. I raised it the other week but I’m not sure whether to mention it again as it seems so unfair. The nursery has a small yard but only goes out for a short time each day

Our nursery doesn’t have any outside space but they take them out every day. My sons been there a year and I can count on 2 hands how many times they’ve not been out and that’s usually only for extreme weather! There are 2 parks right next to the nursery so they go to one of them or at least a walk in the local area

As a previous nursery worker it will also depend on staffing and the ratio is lower when on outings. So they would need to have extra staff to be able to leave the building with the children.... It's not as simple as just getting them out the door. There are other factors at play.... X

I think my son went out on trips about 5 times the whole time he went but he played out every day

The nursery I work at only takes babies out if there’s enough staff or it’s a quiet day as in the building it’s a 1:3 ratio whereas outside on a walk it’s a 1:2 ratio so we would be over ratio by 2 babies if we went out on walks everyday.
There are various different factors you’ve got to take into account about going for a walk with babies. Also with the heatwave going on in the UK we can’t take babies or children out due to health and safety risks. Same if it’s icy, windy or just bad weather in general we don’t take them out.
Have they not got an outdoor area that they can just go out to during the day?x
