12 week scan

Hi ladies

Got my 12 week scan today, first pregnancy and very excited/ nervous.

What questions did you ask if any during the scan? I’ve elected for all screening to be done.

Their primary goal is to take measurements to determine your EDD. In my two experiences, they don’t really tell you much (could just be the sonographers I got though) they save all the detailed checks for 20 week scan.
I think all you can really ask is if things are looking ok for how many weeks you are. You could ask about the fluid level, if that looks normal. The location of the baby.
I asked if they could see all limbs etc too.

Ask the location of your placenta! It will affect when you can first feel movement more often than not x

I'm a nerd and it helped to ask what they specifically look for during the scans ie what are they looking at/for as they look around, what measurements they look for, what do the colors mean, and what structures are we seeing etc. Thankfully, the techs that I've had have been talkative and helpful with the general information and it's been a really cool learning experience to get a glimpse into their world for a brief moment.

I second asking about the placenta location, where the umbilical cord is connecting to both it and baby; amniotic fluid level; cervix being closed (which it should be).

Heck, even asking to take a couple extra seconds to just hear baby's heartbeat can be very grounding and bring everything back to the moment ❤️ it's a lot happening all at once and it's great having the reminder to take things slow, enjoy the moment, and soak up all the good every chance you get ❤️❤️ good luck!
